Every CW Upfront serves as our first tease to the network’s annual Arrowverse crossover, which has become ratings gold for all four DCTV shows involved: Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.
This year, Green Arrow, Flash, Supergirl, and the Legends will join forces with none other than Batwoman.
“We will be doing another crossover event this fall on The CW [and] we will be introducing a new character. We will be fighting alongside Batwoman,” Arrow star Stephen Amell announced on Thursday at the network’s Upfronts.
Batwoman’s addition looks to further expand the Arrowverse as it brings Gotham into the picture. So can we expect Gotham to become a thing in this universe? Sounds like it.
“We’re adding the city of Gotham into the Arrowverse,” said CW president Mark Pedowitz, who promised “another full-throttled action packed event.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard reference to Gotham. Oliver Queen name-dropped Bruce Wayne last season, which was a nice Easter Egg to the network’s plans to introduce Gotham into the universe. Who knows, perhaps another spinoff is in the works, as these superhero shows continue to be The CW’s best-performing shows.
Hopefully these producers will do right by Batwoman. But that’s wishful thinking. Can you blame us for being skeptical? How many female characters have they ruined? So, CW, here we are praying. Praying that you do right by Batwoman and not just use her for crossover hype.
