Starz American Gods has added three new actors to its second season according to Deadline. These three key roles are that of New Media, Sam Black Crow, Mr. Town. After last years season finale and the departure of so many key actors and EP’s, we were understandably hesitant about the direction this show would take. Now, some of the weight has been lifted off our shoulders and we’re ready to learn more about these new additions!
First up, Media. New Media, played by Kahyun Kim, will be the successor to Gillian Anderson’s Media. Kim is best known for starring in Cassandra French’s Finishing Room, Shameless, and the TV Movie remake of Freaky Friday. The Julliard trained actress was born in Korea before coming to the U.S. at the age of 16. And while we’ll miss Anderson we’re over the moon and ready for more Asian representation on our screens and a New Media who’s going to be “a cyberspace chameleon.”
Then there’s Sam Black Crow. She will be played by First Nations actor Devery Jacobs, also sometimes credited as Kawennahere Devery Jacobs. She is best known for her roles in Cardinal, This Life, and the Canadian Screen Award nominated film Rhymes for Young Ghouls. Jacobs will play a college student who is “spiritually cynical for someone who claims to believe in so much.” Her confidence and the fact that she sells chainsaw art that she makes herself, will definitely lead to an interesting encounter with Shadow, whenever that happens.

P.S. We’re so FUCKING happy that Starz picked an actual First Nations actor to play Sam Black Crow. The actors you pick for roles such as these are essential and say a lot about the choices being made behind the scenes. No brown facing or tanning to make it seem like a First Nations actor. American Gods is giving an ACTUAL First Nations actor an opportunity to represent her people and that’s fantastic.
And finally we have Mr. Town. Dean Winters, best known for John Wick, Divorce, and the role of The Vulture on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, will be taking on the role for season 2. Mr. Town will be in league with Mr. World (Crispin Glover) aka the bad guy of all of this. His job is to get answers out out of Shadow (Ricky Whittle) by any means necessary and no matter how brutal they may be.
