With a new show-runner, Eric Wallace, at the helm, fans are understandably curious about the direction The Flash will take this year. Wallace is quick to put such fears to rest, promising, “Because I’m a comic guy, there’s going to be more comic book-iness this season.”
A lot of that “comic book-iness” is due to the upcoming Crisis on Infinite Earths, which will no doubt turn the universe on its head. However, it also opens doors for the show, splitting the season into three distinct parts (with three distinct villains, perhaps).
It also affords the opportunity for the show to go in wildly different, weirder, and more creative places once Crisis is done. In fact, Wallace describes it as a minor reboot, changing the perception of what the show might look like and allowing for new villains that we wouldn’t have seen before.
So how will the loss of Nora and the looming crisis impact Westallen? Wallace explains that there are hints throughout the season as to how their daughter, Nora, might return. However, in the meantime, he reassures Westallen fans that her death will bring everyone together, particularly Barry and Iris. The two are grieving the loss of their daughter as they try to figure out how to save the world and, in the meantime, “Candice and Grant are just knocking it out of the park.”
We never doubted it.
