Batwoman‘s “A Narrow Escape” saw the aftermath of Alice being imprisoned at Arkham and Kate’s guilt at A) Locking her sister and betraying her and B) Killing the man that destroyed their lives. Thank God for Mary coming in hot and giving Kate the advice she needed. As for Alice, our girl is stirring up trouble at Arkham and we are here for it!
The Good: Mary Being Mary
The good goes out to my girl Mary. She is this episode’s MVP and no one can change my mind. Not only did she show how stand up of a person she is when it came to her patients. She showed Gotham and her family that she is committed to helping those in need no matter what.
Mary didn’t have to stay with her patients. She could’ve rode off into the sunset and lived up to that vapid stereotype that everyone thinks she’s all about. Instead she helped her patients escape and survive the craziness that was The Detonator.
And don’t even get me started on what Mary did for Kate. Our Batwoman needed to hear these words from Mary. A) Because she trusts Mary and because B) Kate needed that swift kick in the ass to help her realization that being a hero is more what she perceives it to be.
So, thank you Mary. You’re Team Batwoman and there’s no going back now!
The Bad – Kate’s Anxiety
Even though I’m not Team Kate right now, I feel for her and the anxiety that has overtaken her life. Trauma isn’t an easy thing to get through. Top that off with the fact that she feels like a criminal for killing the man who destroyed her life and Alice’s, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster and pain.
Thank God for Mary, who knocked some sense into Kate. Without her, I don’t know how long Kate would’ve wallowed in her pain and guilt. We also don’t know how long Kate would’ve gone without putting on the Batwoman suit.
What Kate needs to realize is that being a hero is a multifaceted thing that continues to bend, break, and build itself back up again. There’s no one way to be the good guy and mistakes happen more often than not. And that doesn’t make you a bad person. It just makes you human.
The Ugly – What Alice Has Planned
At this point, and considering what happened to get Alice where she is now, I’m Team Alice. Yes, she’s evil and what she has planned for Arkham is going to tip the scale in her favor. But that doesn’t matter to me right now.
Alice got done dirty and right now I can’t wait to see what mischief she has planned for everyone. Because Alice tried to play by the rules. She tried to do the right thing before driving into the sunset with Mouse, her anger at what had happened to her, in the past.
Then Kate had to trap her in Arkham, throwing all those plans in the trash. So, bring it on Queen of Arkaham. Stand your ground, Alice. Take control. And when Kate comes a knocking, ready to take you down, show her how far you’ve come and how strong you are.
We told you, we’re Team Alice up in here.
Batwoman airs Sundays at 9/8c on The CW.
