To say we’re excited about the Dear Evan Hansen theatrical film would be an understatement. Especially with some of the big names that have joined the project. The most recent is six-time Oscar nominee Amy Adams.
Adams will play Cynthia Murphy, the mother of Connor (Colton Ryan) and Zoe (Kaitlyn Dever.) Originally, Jennifer Laura Thompson played the role of Cynthia on Broadway.
Dear Evan Hansen won six Tony Awards in 2017, and the move to the big screen feels like the right next step. The Dear Evan Hansen movie is based on the musical, which includes music from Oscar winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
As for whether Ben Platt will reprise his role as Evan Hansen, it sounds like that will indeed be the case. Even though he called it a “toss-up,” the chances are good that it’ll certainly be the case.
“It’s something that we’ve definitely been trying to get together to make happen,” Platt said on Jimmy Fallon in June. “I know Universal [Pictures] really wants to make the film. It’s a toss-up at this point just based on, can we do it safely and can we get it together in time?”
Adams joins a cast that includes Amandla Stenberg (Alana), Nik Dodani (Jared), Ryan and Dever.
While there’s no release date currently set, it’s certainly a good sign that casting has begun. The sooner, the better, as this is one story the world needs to see.
