For those Game of Thrones fans who have been sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for any scrap of news regarding House of the Dragon, I have some great news for you.
Deadline is reporting that Paddy Considine has been cast to play King Viserys Targaryen. No, I’m not talking about Viserys that was killed by Khal Drogo, Viserys. This Viserys is the one that succeds Old King Jaehaerys. You might also know Considine from The Outsider, The Third Day, Peaky Blinders and The Ferryman.
The House of the Dragon is based on George R.R Martin’s book, Fire & Blood, which is set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and tells the story of House Targaryen.
Considine will play King Viserys Targaryen, chosen by the lords of Westeros to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen, at the Great Council at Harrenhal. A warm, kind, and decent man, Viserys only wishes to carry forward his grandfather’s legacy. But good men do not necessarily make for great kings.
House of the Dragon was co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal. The pilot script that landed the series order was written by Condal. He serves as co-showrunner alongside GoT veteran Miguel Sapochnik who will direct the pilot and additional episodes. The first season is reported to have a full 10 episodes.
Martin, Condal and Sapochnik executive produce alongside Vince Gerardis and Sara Lee Hess who has joined Condal as a writer on the series.
