The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is less than a month away; the countdown is on. Thankfully, Marvel Studios has two more episodes of WandaVision, an episode of the documentary series ASSEMBLED, and a couple of Marvel Studios: LEGENDS episodes to hold us over until then. But that’s not all! Marvel Studios released ten images for the upcoming Disney+ series that give us a closer look at where we’ll be picking up with Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes. To say we’re excited would be a massive understatement.
It’s a safe bet that these images aren’t from too far in the series. We are well aware of how much Marvel loves its secrets by now. Not only that, these images give us some confirmation on characters we’ve only heard rumors about after casting reports. For example, Murphy’s Multiverse reported a year ago that Adepero Oduye would join The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in an undisclosed role. Now we know she will be playing Sarah Wilson — Sam’s sister.
This is a good sign that TFATWS will follow through on what Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios promised. We’ll get to know Sam and Bucky in a much deeper way than the movies allowed over the course of the six episodes. Sam is taking Bucky to meet his family. That’s not something that should be taken lightly because these two did not start off on the best of terms. It’s going to be so much fun to watch their dynamic and relationship evolve as they learn more about one another.

Plus, these images give us another look at Emily VanCamp‘s return as Sharon Carter. The caption confirms that’s she’s still going by Agent 13 to someone — to whom and why we don’t know. S.H.I.E.L.D. is not a thing anymore, so there’s plenty left to discover there. In that same photo, you can see Sebastian Stan’s very real hand where a Vibranium rendering should be. This will likely be fixed before we ever see that specific shot on The Falcon and the Winter Solider.
It’s funny since this isn’t the first time this has happened this year, let alone to Stan’s Bucky Barnes. It happened earlier this year with Paul Bettany’s arm showing through a sleeve that should’ve had Vision’s synthezoid coloring. It happened to Stan back in 2018 with Bucky’s arm on an Avengers: Infinity War poster.
Additionally, these images give us some clues to where Steve Rogers is during all of this. The trailers have been really ominous and secretive on this topic, but these images could be the missing piece. The photo of Sam in a black suit staring at the shield in a somber manner doesn’t bode well for Steve’s fate. Then again, this could be a classic Marvel fake out. But what about all of the memorials and murals in the trailers? Trust us, we don’t want to admit Steve could be dead, but it’s not looking good. Even if they won’t admit it, Sam and Bucky could use to lean on each other during that time if this is Steve’s fate.
Regardless, all of the content we’ve gotten for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier proves that Sam and Bucky are stuck together whether they like it or not. Steve, whether he passed away, retired, or he’s living in an alternate timeline, brought these two heroes together. Now we get to see them exist without him — to go about their own stories without them having to tie back to his. This is Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes’ time to shine! Their juvenile staring contest suggests they may argue over who gets to spend more time in the spotlight. We have faith The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will find a way to balance their stories.
