We loved her in The Big Bang Theory. We loved her in The Flight Attendant. Now we’re excited to see Kaley Cuoco play an icon. And yes, we know she’s an icon in her own right.
Cuoco’s Yes,Norman Productions will again join forces with Berlanti Productions (they worked together on The Flight Attendant) to adapt A.E. Hotchner’s “Doris Day: Her Own Story.” The book is all about Day’s life based on interviews that Day herself, gave in her lifetime. It also is from conversations with her family members, friends and co-stars.
Cuoco will play Day, the iconic actor, singer and animal rights activist.
There is no network attached to the project as of yet, but with everyone attached we think it’s only a matter of time before that changes.
Day passed away at the age of 97 in 2019. She started in show business in as a singer, and made her film debut in the late 1940s in movie musicals. She stared in some of the best old movies – if I don’t say so myself. She stared in films such as Calamity Jane, Lullaby of Broadway, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Do Not Disturb, and many more.
Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson and Tony Randall was a good movie, which earned her an Oscar nomination. She also headlined The Doris Day Show which ran from 1968-1973.
The production team includes Cuoco, and from Berlanti Productions, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and David Madden. Co-executive producers are Suzanne McCormack from Yes, Norman and Bob Bashara, the trustee from the Doris Day Estate, with which the series will be working. Consulting producers are Jim Pierson, who worked with Day, and Tim Hotchner, her biographer’s son.
Greetings, Erin E. Gross!… to the matter…
.
KALEY CUOCO, I BELIEVE, COULD ONE DAY WIN AN OSCAR!… and!… she is capable of DIRECTING the planned Greg Berlanti/ WBTV Limited Series TV Bio-pic, about Doris Day! And DIRECTING, Britney Spears! Yes!… Britney Spears!… the ONLY entertainer suited for this slated Production!
.
Erin E. Gross!… need I say– or anyone say!– how much Kaley Cuoco is loved!… and cherished! She is fierce!… a go-getter, who got up and got (I hope you enjoyed that!)!… dedicated!… is on time!… on the mark!… MADE FOR OUR EYES, OUR EARS AND OUR HEARTS!… but, she d-o-e-s n-o-t h-a-v-e the “lines” (an all-encompassing expression of mine!) of Doris Day! Y-E-S, Erin E. Gross!… she’d do her best!… chipping, bending and even “breaking” our perceptions of the form, style and persona of Doris Day! But!… and at the end of the day… Kaley, Greg and WBTV will have fallen short of the “ether’s” expectations of what this Production should be about– MUST be about!
.
Y-E-S, Erin E. Gross!… I’m QUITE AWARE of a goodly portion of the G*d d*mned nonsense (SORRY!) “churning” in this same “ether” tagged to Britney Spears!… and, I’m also QUITE AWARE that a goodly portion of the G*d d*mned nonsense (SORRY!) churning in this same “ether” tagged to Britney Spears, I-S N-O-T T-O B-E B-E-L-I-E-V-E-D!! P-L-E-A-Z-E!!
.
Look, Erin E. Gross!… the character for this Production MUST sing, MUST dance, MUST display the “etherial lines” of Doris and, MUST resemble the physical appearance of Doris Day! And you k-n-o-w, Erin E. Gross, that Kaley Cuoco is QUITE AWARE of these prerequisites! But, because she’s a go-getter who got up and got, she is DARING to prove to ME– AND TO ALL CHALLENGERS!– that she can bang, slap, kick, bend, twist and otherwise contort this “Dorisian ether” into “Kaley believability”! But, the question is: Will it be enough?… and will it break her heart if it fails?… and OUR hearts, in the process?

S-H-E M-U-S-T D-I-R-E-C-T T-H-I-S P-R-O-D-U-C-T-I-O-N!… A-N-D T-A-K-E H-O-M-E T-H-E G-O-L-D!… A-N-D T-H-E L-O-V-E!… A-N-D B-Y T-H-A-T, C-H-A-N-G-E B-R-I-T-N-E-Y S-P-E-A-R-S, F-O-R-E-V-E-R!
.
When I first heard of the casting for the WB “Clooney Batman”… and then witnessed the initial release!… I phoned a senior lawyer at WB (a female) and PLEADED that the “press” be stopped, and that further screening be halted!… as public support for this WB m-e-s-s was soon to tank! Her response was (as paraphrased): You’re not giving the Production enough time… (and, etc.!)! Well, Erin E. Gross!… you know by now the result! And this result cannot be attributed to ANY of the cast!… or, to Schumacher!… but, to the Production Head Office– ALONE (this was not thought out properly, and Production was responsible for setting the TONE of the effort!… but, as was revealed, WB was “TONE DEAF”!)! Dayglo piping on sets, hockey skates and smirks from ear to ear!… SILLY! And, with no word, apparently, from Production!
.
Thank you Doris!… and on behalf of ALL of the hurting children who rushed home from school so see you!… who found the mother, the friend and the love they needed!
.
All the best! – John Mayor
