The ATX Television Festival, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, will host daily virtual screenings of “NOW with Fiona” introduced by Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD.
Captivating conversations with Ricardo Martinez, CEO of Equality Texas, Edna Yang, Co-Executive Director of American Gateways, and special guest Kate Del Castillo, the central character of the story, who is reunited with someone from her past, to follow.
From June 11th – June 20th, “NOW with Fiona” will be available on-demand for badge holders at ATXTVFestival.com, as part of The Syndication Project.
“I’m absolutely thrilled that ATX TV Festival is showcasing Kate’s unexpected and happy story,” states Dawson, an LGBTQ Artist Champion of Change Honoree under President Obama’s administration. “We see a lot of tragedy in the world, but there are uplifting and positive deeds happening too, and I believe those are the stories we need to focus on especially now. ”
“GLAAD’s research shows that the LGBTQ community is growing, which makes the need for enlightening shows that build empathy all the more necessary,” states Sarah Kate Ellis President and CEO, GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization, as she presents the show.
“Fiona’s magnetic personality and visibility as a bisexual woman add unique and necessary elements to this series and the media at large,” Ellis added.
The post-screening conversation takes a real-life look at how immigration and LQBTQ rights intersect and how we can find hope in the work that is being done through organizations like Equality Texas and American Gateways. “There are a lot of really credible, undocu-queer activists here in Texas that have worked within in the intersections of their LGBTQ identity and their undocumented experience to help influence what the future of undocumented LGBTQ queer folks is going to be like, especially those who are seeking asylum,” Martinez explains.
Produced by Free Lion Productions, this proof-of-concept episode of “NOW with Fiona” takes inspiration from the visionary gay politician Harvey Milk, and Kate, an indomitable Honduran transgender woman seeking asylum in the United States.
Additionally weaving in voices of hope from the streets of New York City’s WorldPride. Fiona demonstrates that we are all legends unto ourselves.
“Through the passion and enterprise of industry leaders participating in the ATX TV Festival, my team and I hope to connect with production companies and distributors who would like to entertain audiences with more stories of hope and love through our unscripted series, ‘NOW with Fiona’” Fiona concludes.
