According to Deadline, Supernatural is back at it again in the form of a prequel. Titled The Winchesters it’s set to tell the story of Mary and John aka Sam and Dean’s parents. This comeback to the series is in development at The CW and is set to be executive produced by Jensen and Danneel Ackles through their company, Chaos Machine Productions. In addition, Jensen will reprising his role as Dean Winchester and act as the voiceover that is to guide us through the new show.
Robbie Thompson, known for his work on Supernatural is going to join Jensen in executive producing The Winchesters while also writing the scripts. He will be the hand that tells the story of Mary and John, how they met, and what The CW hopes to sell as an epic love story. The Ackles are also working with Renee Reiff, the head of development.
Jensen Ackles told Deadline, “After Supernatural wrapped its 15th season, we knew it wasn’t over. Because like we say in the show, ‘nothing ever really ends, does it?'” He followed up by saying, “When Danneel and I formed Chaos Machine Productions, we knew the first story we wanted to tell was the story of John and Mary Winchester, or rather the Supernatural origin story. I always felt like my character, Dean, would have wanted to know more about his parents’ relationship and how it came to be. So I love the thought of having him take us on this journey.”
Personally, I don’t want it. Mary was the hunter. Mary had the family background. But I seriously doubt that this show is going to give Mary, and her family’s legacy, the respect that she deserves as a character. Even in the way that the project is originally described by Jensen Ackles, it’s always John first and that speaks volumes on who the lead character is in his mind. But I’m here for Jensen Ackles to prove me wrong.
Also, did no one watch the OG show? Like…John was not a nice guy. He was abusive, hot headed, and kind of a dick. Also, Chuck aka God set all this up. Like seriously, the point of the OG show was Dean and Sam fighting to have free will. How are we supposed to fall in love with Mary and John when we all know that it’s been manufactured to end in tragedy?
Also, it’s surprising that The CW thought this was a good direction to go in especially with Wayward Sisters ripe for the picking with characters we know and love. And it makes you wonder, why that didn’t become the next big hit? Was it not supported to the extent that the Ackles are backing this The Winchesters project? Also, does Jared Padalecki support this endeavor or is involved at all? We ask after the following tweets went up:
The questions are real and they’re not coming out of nowhere. So, give us the tea and check out these other tweets from people that would rather have something else!

I can’t wait. I am looking forward to it. Easy to be judge mental against someone who is going through grief I’ve seen it in many ways I would love to see the beginning story of John and Mary and the fact that jensen is involved and Robbie, does not hurt at all. No character in the show was perfect
Definitely not John but before his wife died he was a good man and a good father.
