Loki makes MCU history as the first Marvel Studios show on Disney+ series to get a second season. The streaming service confirmed the news with the Season 1 finale’s mid-credits scene. This news has been rumored since January of this year.
Many fans, myself included, who are less than satisfied with the amount of Loki in the season finale welcome this news. The focus veered elsewhere for much of its final hour, so it’s more than comforting to know that Hiddleston’s Loki will return for, ideally, more stories centered on him.
Beyond Loki, there is still plenty to learn about the other characters on the show. Where did Renslayer go? Will Hunter B-15 and Mobius be able to reform the TVA? What will Sylvie do next? Will Loki reunite with Mobius? I really need that last one to be true.

Though this news is extremely exciting, it makes the hiatus between seasons unbearable. The mid-credits scene showed that “Loki” will return for Season 2. It’s difficult to tell where that is merely referencing the show’s title and/or Tom Hiddleston’s Loki. It feels safe to assume that at least a majority of the existing cast will return for another season.
Furthermore, Loki‘s renewal suggests an optimistic future for Marvel Studios’ series on the streaming service. WandaVision‘s limited run makes sense for the trajectory of that series. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier still has the room to return for another season. For now, though it is limited series, too. Its larger purpose is to set up Sam Wilson (and hopefully Bucky Barnes) for his first, solo Captain America film.
A Season 2 for Loki could mean that Marvel Studios does recognize the power of telling its stories through the medium of TV without for longer than a single season. Hopefully this is the case for future Phase 4 shows, too.
