When most of us do something great, we say that we don’t want praise, but let’s be real – we want everyone to praise us. Especially our coaches, teachers, parents, and friends.
And through a lot of my life I have felt like I have gotten a lot of support, I am now comparing all of my future hype squad reactions to the Team Australia coach, Dean Boxall. He lost his shit in the most positive of way and it was the best thing ever.
Ariarne Titmus won the 400m Freestyle Final during the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, beating out American, Katie Ledecky to pick up the gold medal. Now I would first like to congratulate Ariarne.
Katie Ledecky is a powerhouse and an American swimming icon. She was the one to beat and Ariarne narrowly edged her out. And when she did, there was nothing that the ushers at the aquatic center could do.
There was no stopping him.

He told Sports Illustrated that he, “lost it.” But I would argue that he found himself being the coach that we all deserve to have in our lives.
All future hype people take note, because if you aren’t giving this reaction you’re failing.
“I can’t help it. believe in my athletes. It’s very simple, when the athletes leave the pool deck…they begin the recovery process and they switch off. I go home and try to find a way for them to get better. I don’t turn it off. That’s probably why I let it out.” he said.
Thank you for setting a standard, Dean.
