Were you wishing for another Marvel Studios Disney+ show premiere date? Entertainment Weekly heard us all clamoring for the franchise’s next big thing and delivered an exclusive first look at Hawkeye. Of course, we are still impatiently awaiting Marvel Studios’ first animated series, What If…?, but the live-action series will always hold very special places in our hearts.
Hawkeye will introduce a character everyone has been begging to appear in the MCU for quite some time. That’s right; Kate Bishop is almost here! EW shared the first photo from the series (which you can see above) and featured a few words from returning Avenger, Jeremy Renner about what we can expect from the series.
Clint Barton will return to the MCU for the first time since Avengers: Endgame. For those who aren’t aware, the last time we saw Clint he was on a deadly stint in Japan before he rejoined the Avengers to save the Universe. Now, he’s training an up-and-coming female archer all there is to know about being Hawkeye.
Hailee Steinfeld, who is so ridiculously talented that she’s more than a triple threat, will pull Kate Bishop out of the comics and onto the small screen. The tone of Hawkeye is yet to be determined, but Steinfeld’s filmography bodes well for her ability to morph into whatever the show needs of Kate.
The series premieres Wednesday, November 24 on Disney+. This means the series will be airing by the time that Spider-Man: No Way Home swings into theaters. That is still far away but all of the news is starting to fall right into place. We’ll have a teaser trailer and then a full trailer before we know it. Until then, let’s go over what we do know. The series was written by Rhys Thomas and directed by the duo Bert and Bertie.
The Hawkeye cast is impressive! Vera Farmiga, Florence Pugh, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Alaqua Cox, and Zahn McClarnon will all appear on the series alongside Jeremy Renner and Hailee Steinfeld. The addition of Florence Pugh makes all the more sense after Black Widow‘s release. It’s unclear how long Pugh’s Yelena Belova will stick around on the series. There’s no denying that she’s coming with a vendetta to avenge her sister, but we hope she and Kate become friends along the way.
The involvement of Yelena also raises the question of whether the MCU is setting up the Young Avengers, the Thunderbolts, or both. All of the Marvel Studios TV shows on Disney+ tie into future projects, so it wouldn’t be shocking to learn that Kate Bishop is here to stay as Hawkeye and a Young Avenger. That would be as welcomed news as maybe Yelena sticking around to join Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s Thunderbolts.
Only time will tell, and we have a lot of it to get through before Hawkeye premieres.
