Welcome back! Heels 1×07 “The Big Bad Fish Man” takes a step back in terms of getting us emotional like last week but it does manage to make us identify with the characters and see more edges, more sides of them than we have seen so far. Time for review!
Here we go!
Heels 1×07 “The Big Bad Fish Man” is about second chances and how difficult it is to take advantage of them because it is not so easy not to deviate from the path … and not to get forgiveness. Again, Heels leaves us quite cold when dealing with emotional conflicts.
It’s a strange feeling because the show has all the ingredients to shine… but it stays in an attempt. In general, it’s pretty bad when I can’t stop thinking “what am I going to write in the review?” while watching an episode. I always have to think “I don’t know where to start”, when I have no idea what to write… it means I don’t have much to say because the episode hasn’t… stirred me up inside.
That’s what happens to me with Heels. The show tries, I try … but we don’t quite fit in.
That said, I have identified a little with Ace in Heels 1×07 “The Big Bad Fish Man,” after all, we have all tried to fix our lives and we have ended up making it worse, simply because we do not know where to go, how to do it, we are lost … and we ended up in a very bad place. So we need someone to get us out of there.
Jack is that person for Ace in this episode. Don’t get me wrong, I think Jack is too possessive, for lack of a better word, with Ace. A true friend would talk to him seriously and help him do what he wants to do, not force him to be where he wants him to be. I don’t think Jack is doing the right thing with Ace, that jumps out because a friend would never do to Ace what Jack did. Never.
But I do think that the place Ace was in was not exactly the best. He looked too dangerous, too seedy, too… dark. It wasn’t a good place for Ace … but neither is Jack. Jack is toxic and believes that the end justifies the means. Jack believes in achieving success at any cost, bypassing the people, the friends, the people he loves. It is a very dangerous way of thinking that only ends in destruction.
We think Jack is sorry for the mistakes he made with Ace but he is not able to face them, be honest and start rebuilding everything that falls apart from there, from scratch. Jack built all of this, most of his professional and personal life on lies, deceit, or hiding the truth. It’s like a house of cards, it can be built and held… but he won’t do it forever.
Jack just lost his wife. The question is: who else is he willing to lose before reacting?
Speaking of Jack, seriously, nothing? When Crystal has gone to apologize, she repented and has given a whole speech to try to get him to forgive her or, at least, to listen to her, she has not obtained anything, just a “thank you for coming.” Jack shouldn’t judge her so harshly. We all deserve a second chance, we all make mistakes, we can repent and try to fix them and learn from them.
Even him.
After all, isn’t life about that?
And here ends our Heels 1×05 “The Big Bad Fish Man” review. We will be back next week with a new one!
