We’re here again! Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer” is a strange mix between a transition episode and a really important and necessary one, since it advances a lot in the history of the Boone family and gives us some answers although, as always, accompanied by more questions. Time for review!
Here we go!
Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer” starts right where we left off in the previous episode and we find out that Loa is dead. I … I have no words for this. I promise you that, at first, I thought that everything would be resolved and we would discover that she was alive, seriously injured, but alive. However, as Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer” progressed, I realized that this was not going to happen.
This murder shakes the Boone family to the ground – and us too. Honor and Tane don’t know what to do, Loa was their little sister and now they must say goodbye to her in the same way that they recently had to say goodbye to their mother. She wants revenge. And me too. It’s so unfair…Jakub and Philip must pay for what they did, they must suffer for it. And Charles agrees. He knows it was them, he knows they killed her to get his attention, to get to him. And he doesn’t know the reason that he has.

In a way, Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer” fulfills my wish and brings Loa back… but not in the way we would have wanted. She has now joined the undead, the vampires, Jakub’s family and it hurts a lot to see her physically there but not really being her. And the offer Jakub makes to Charles … no comment.
He kills his daughter, turns her into a vampire, and now he wants Charles to get him that damn book. He blackmails him into doing it. Jakub and Philip are more than capable of killing Tane and Honor just like they did with Loa but there must be another way. If Charles gives that book to Jakub he will become invincible and he’s already too strong, as we have seen with what has happened with Faith and with what is happening in the town. There must be a third option.
There has to be a way out.
Loa’s murder at the hands of Philip and Jakub Bonnet in Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer” also has consequences for Rebecca. She feels guilty because she knows that Loa ran away from Chapelwaite due to her being upset that she found out that Rebecca was using them to write a book.
The truth is that the only culprits for this are Loa’s murderers, no one else, but it’s completely understandable that Rebecca feels that way because when something like this happens it’s inevitable to think about the maybes … it’s inevitable to think how you could have done differently to prevent that from happening. So I completely understand her and I feel bad for her because no matter how this started, Rebecca loves Loa and knowing her dead has been a hard blow for her too.
That’s why I find it even more admirable how Rebecca approaches Tane and Honor to apologize for her cheating in Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer.” She speaks from the heart, it is the only thing left for her, to tell the truth, to tell them that she is sorry for how it all started, letting them know her reasons, although never justifying herself and confessing that writing her book long ago took a back seat. She loves them. And she just hopes they can forgive her. Someday.
Honor speaks for everyone by telling Rebecca that she hurt them. They trusted her, they leaned on her, and Rebecca was the only person they thought they could count on amid all the hostility of the town. She was their safe place. And discovering that it was all a lie hurts them, breaks their hearts … that doesn’t mean that they cannot forgive her…just that it is still too early, they still cannot trust her again and believe that, for her, they’re something more than a means for a end. Rebecca gets it. She lost their trust and must earn it back.

That’s why Rebecca also understands Charles’s reaction in Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer.” Part of her wanted to tell him so that he would know it all at once and not have to feel like she was betraying him every time she spoke to him, every time Charles trusted her and another part of her didn’t want Charles to ever know because Rebecca knows that, as soon as he does, she will lose him and she doesn’t want to, she can’t lose him … especially now that she has just lost Loa.
But it happens. Charles knows it and he… he’s heartbroken too. He trusted Rebecca, he came to lean on her, he even got to … feel something for her and just discovered that it was all a lie, a hoax. None of that was true. The closeness they were having, what he saw in Rebecca’s eyes… it was all fake.
Rebecca has done him a lot of damage and when a person hurts us like that, we can only attack to try to do the same damage to that person, so that they feel just as bad, just as devastated as us, that is why Charles dedicates those last words to Rebecca and that’s why she’s crying inconsolably … because Charles took the last bite, the one that ended up breaking her and now she … lost everything.
The Boone family definitely lost confidence in Rebecca in Chapelwaite 1×06 “The Offer” and now she must fight to win it back. I really hope she does. Trust is something that is lost in a second but it takes a lifetime to rebuild itself … Rebecca must take that step to fight for that family, for her family.
