Breakups can be pretty brutal, I think that is the norm. We all expect that to just to be a part of life. No one can really judge how you deal with them, because we all experience feelings differently.
And this is what we are dealing with in the second episode of Pretty Smart.
To be honest, I was pretty sure that Chelsea would deal with her breakup pretty well. I thought she would apply some sort of psychology behind it, say that she was applying some sort of steps to it, and we’d be on our merry way.
And hey, you think for a hot second she’s going to be that way. She’s talking about finding a job, doing things she’s supposed to, and moving forward.
Well, that is until the mail comes.
Now, I always say nothing good comes in the mail, ever. Unless it is something you have ordered, then you know what is there. But when someone is sending you something and it’s a surprise – expect to not be thrilled.
Then again, that is because we live in a society where it’s easier to send instant gratification and gift cards. And hey, if someone is sending us stuff, unless it’s shit we’ve requested, we don’t really want it.
I am the worst person at going to the post office, so if I tell you that I am sending something, expect me to go to the post office 6-8 weeks after I say that. So someone planning ahead and sending something ahead of time is something that is kinda way beyond me.
When the box comes, Chelsea isn’t ready to open it. She’s thinking Dwayne overnighted it to her, but of course the roommates have comments. One suggests that he could have sent it early and then someone actually checks the sent date to see when it was sent.
Ummm, Dwayne only broke up with her the day before. And so this means that he put her on a plane with the intention of never following her. He put her on a plane with the intention of never following her. And that shit is a painful realization for Claire.
As it would be for anyone.
Look, at this point Dwayne had better look like the hottest man known to man kind, because the way that Chelsea worships him and the way that she breaks down over him… cause I am not understanding why she’s so distraught. Either that or he’s legit the most nerdy person ever and has a platinum penis.
But there is no dick that good.
Chelsea can’t get off the couch. She starts to stink up the place. Never seen anyone want to drink that much Diet Coke ever. She’s being selfish and wrapped up in her own thoughts – which hey we’ve all been there.
Having a new roommate isn’t easy for them all and as they watch Chelsea overtake the living room, they think of all the things that they need it for. However, their love for Claire makes them back off a little bit as she says that she’s going to get her sister through this.
What someone needs when wallowing, is sometimes a little bit of tough love. However, Claire is this kind soul who doesn’t really do that. She talks Chelsea into letting her open the box and put things away.
Look, when we have our hearts broken, shit happens and we loose our way. For Chelsea, finding out that Dwayne moved on and has a new assistant makes her spiral. And her spiral makes her disrespect all of the roommates even more. And that’s when Claire stands up and tells her to get her shit together.
I applaud.
Look, all of the “lessons” that Pretty Smart gives us are ones that we all need to learn, but they are done in a cute comedic way. But yet, what kills me with this show, is that they are making all the LA people seem so stupid, but in reality, they aren’t.
It takes a lot of drive, business savvy, and determination to do things like own your own business and sustain it. And that’s what most of these people are doing. Being pretty does not stupid make.
I just feel like, even though I know this is a comedy, they’ve taken it to the extreme, and it’s kinda of a lot to take in. The reason I keep watching is because of the cast, and you can’t help but love them and appreciate the way that they all work together.
The cast has chemistry. And that’s what will keep people invested in a television show. Because when they have chemistry, you find yourself invested in the show. And so you believe that they would be looking out for each other.
When Chelsea pulls herself together and comes to apologize to her new roommates, you believe it. And hey, you’ll look at them and think wow, they are all kind people forgiving her. But that’s what good people do.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- I am glad that Chelsea took the job at Grants gym
- Don’t like that they are setting this up for a love triangle between sisters
- I really don’t like how they make Claire seems less than intelligent
- I need to know, does Grant own the gym?
- I hate onsies.
