WE’RE SO EXCITED FOR THIS! Outlander has just released the first teaser trailer for season 6 and it’s everything, everything you could imagine and more. And the best thing is that it gives some clues but doesn’t really reveal anything while our heads explode with thousands of theories. Ready?
Here we go!
Today out of New York Comic Con 2021 (NYCC), STARZ released the Outlander teaser trailer for the upcoming sixth season during a panel with stars from the hit series and it’s AMAZING! You can see a lot of things in a short time.
Outlander cast members including Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, Lauren Lyle, César Domboy, and John Bell joined the panel virtually from Europe while Sam Heughan, Executive Producer Maril Davis and Outlander author Diana Gabaldon were in-person from the Empire Stage at the Javits Center. Entertainment Weekly’s Ruth Kinane moderated the discussion.
And now…time for the teaser!
The teaser trailer barely lasts 50 seconds but we can see a lot of things here and we’re going to try to unravel them all. The teaser opens with Jamie and Claire, together – and we already love it – Claire seems recovered from her injuries, at least her physical ones. And the smile that she gives to Jamie, so pure, so sincere, so full of love… there are things that never change because they never should.
A little later in the teaser, we see them again in a more intimate moment and more than the sexy and hot moment that we hope to see, what melts us is the way Jamie looks at her, the way he kisses the hand in which Claire wears her rings…the love he feels for her is just as alive as ever.
Speaking of her rings, it seems that Jamie’s ring, the last one he gave her, is missing or maybe we didn’t see it… why? Mind you, it seems like we should give up the idea of Claire getting the Lallybroch ring back… and we’re not sure how to feel about it.
On the other hand, we see Brianna and Roger happy and Roger seems to have grown up in this time, there is nothing left of that university professor who came to the past – or the elf costume he was wearing, thank God – now Roger has matured, he has grown … and he’s a self-made man in a different way than he was in his own time.
In the teaser trailer there is also time for us to take our first look at Malva and from now on, we feel that this character has the touch of a seemingly innocent woman that hides a calculating, manipulated personality and, also, is a survivor. Of course, we want her to get away from Ian ASAP.
We can also see Marsali and Fergus with their new baby, could it be Henri – Christian? Readers will be familiar with this name … later, we see Fergus soaked and carrying what looks like a corpse in his arms, but what keeps our hearts on edge is that this corpse is small, as if it were a child …
And what is at the end of the entire teaser and has more and more prominence in it is war. The American Revolution is already beginning and as always, the Fraser family is in the middle of the conflict and it seems to directly affect them judging by the way Claire is about to cry (we will fight anyone who wants to harm the Frasers, that’s clear, right?)
Now Jamie is going to have to decide what to do because he knows that the right side and the one that will win the war is the one of the revolution, but it’s still too early to turn his back on the Crown and his oath.
“It’s almost here.” This is how the trailer ends and it seems to us the perfect way to do it because yes, the American Revolution is almost here and so is Outlander.
Can’t wait!
The trailer has many clues of what is to come in season 6 but, at the same time, it doesn’t reveal anything to us and we love that because it means that everything is too big to give us any specific clue. And the teaser trailer is many things, it’s loving, it’s magical, it’s intriguing and it’s distressing because you feel that a new war is approaching ready to destroy everything and that the tragedies have only just begun.
Do you know what we like the most about this teaser trailer? Jamie and Claire. We believe that the teaser has shown us all the characters but they’re the ones who have opened and closed the teaser, showing that this family, this story, this show revolves around them.
Outlander season six will premiere in early 2022 on STARZ in the U.S. and STARZPLAY in the UK and follows the events that took place at the end of Season Five. The last time we saw Claire and Jamie, Claire had just escaped a violent encounter with Lionel Brown and returned to Fraser’s Ridge. The threat of the Revolutionary War looms over the ridge and Claire and Jamie must choose what is best for their family.
Adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s international best-selling books, Season Six is based on material from the sixth book in the Outlander series, A Breath of Snow and Ashes. STARZ recently announced the pick-up of the seventh season of Outlander which will be based on the seventh of the eight books in the series, entitled An Echo in the Bone.
