Encanto has just dropped the soundtrack and we’ve got to say…they’re all bops. From “Surface Pressure” to “Colombia, Mi Encanto,” these songs tell a rich story that sticks with you long after you leave the theater. But there’s one song, one earworm, that has been stuck in our heads for days now. Seriously, we fell asleep, dreamt about it, and woke up singing it. And that song is “We Don’t Talk About Bruno.”
The Bruno in question is the long-lost Madrigal of Encanto whose powers have to do with telling prophecies. Unfortunately, and from this song, not everyone was welcoming to these prophecies. Some had to do with gaining weight, others about dead fish, and finally some about a wedding that turned into a hurricane. After his disappearance, the family made it a rule to not talk about Bruno, hence the song.
But why does it stick and why is it an earworm. Half of it has to do with the beat. We’re not music professionals over here who can break down the bits and bobs of why it works. What we can say is that the scenes, beats, and lyrics fit seamlessly, making you want to dance. And the fact that basically the whole family is in on this one makes for a fun song that shows everyone’s range and how secretive they are about Bruno.
