Maria Hill Hive, it’s our time! As initially reported by Deadline, Cobie Smulders will return to the MCU in the upcoming Marvel Studios series Secret Invasion on Disney+.
The last time we saw Maria Hill was in Spider-Man: Far From Home, but that appearance of Smulders wasn’t actually Maria Hill. It was instead a Skrull pretending to be Maria Hill. Namely, it was Soren, Talos’ wife, pretending to be Maria.
That reveal came with an identical one for Nick Fury. Samuel L. Jackson acted like Ben Mendelsohn, acting like Talos acting like Fury. It sounds as complicated as watching, but Secret Invasion could answer all of our burning questions.
For the series, Smulders reunites with returning MCU stars, Jackson and Mendelsohn. Marvel describes the show as a “crossover comic event series showcases a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.”
That premise could mean that Secret Invasion will backtrack just enough to tell us when Nick Fury and Maria Hill became Skrulls or if they’ve been Skrulls since Captain Marvel or Avengers: Endgame.
Regardless, we are ecstatic to see Maria Hill back on our screens!
Smulders made the character with limited screentime a memorable one through smaller moments. Maria Hill took out multiple Hydra agents in the span of seconds in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
There’s one unforgettable moment in Avengers: Age of Ultron. How could any of us forget when Maria — wearing Steve Rogers’ jacket — picked glass out of her foot after Ultron’s attack?
As a reminder, a Skrull came to Monica at the end of WandaVision for assistance. Depending on when Marvel releases the show, Monica Rambeau’s time in The Marvels could be vital to understanding the Skrulls ahead of Secret Invasion.
Additionally, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Christopher McDonald, and Killian Scott are set to star.
