The official trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is here, and it packs a serious punch! This new footage does not hold back as it makes us fall head-first into the Multiverse with Stephen Strange, Wanda Maximoff, America Chavez, and a few other familiar faces.
This trailer doesn’t reveal much more about the plot, and that’s for the best with this phase of the MCU. Most of the movies have held those details close to their chests, and it’s paid off in spades. Think of Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home, for example.
Nevertheless, there are still so many things to geek out about in this trailer. So much so it is best to break it down into parts so we don’t miss a detail. Because, believe it or not, even the new Multiverse of Madness poster has details hidden in it! For example, if you look close enough at it, you can see Captain Carter’s shield in one of the shards of glass.

Dr. Strange Faces Consequences
After Spider-Man: No Way Home, Stephen Strange must face the consequences of his actions. Except, if we take Wanda’s word, the public has been far less skeptical of him and his ways of breaking the rules. Of course, Wong remains a voice of reason in Stephen’s life, but Multiverse of Madness could be his last straw. Honestly, we wouldn’t blame him.
Some of the trailer’s best visuals are of Strange falling through the Multiverse or interacting with it by communicating with a Variant of himself. Shout out to Loki for delivering the terminology we need and cracking the door open to Multiverse. The No Way Home post-credits footage suggested that Multiverse of Madness would incorporate What If..?, but this trailer confirms it.
The MCU could write off the Strange Variant as a coincidence in its similarity to What If..?, but a few shots within the trailer tease the Zombies from that animated series. This means we could see zombie versions of Stephen Strange, Wanda Maximoff, and other key players. The director Sam Raimi is leaning into the horror tropes, so we wouldn’t be shocked if zombies play a significant role in the film.

America Chavez Is Here
This full-length trailer gives us our first, real look at America Chavez in action. The previous footage hinted at her role in the movie, and there’s still plenty left to be revealed. But, again, we choose to see that as a good thing because surprises are fun, especially this deep into the MCU. Regardless, Xochitl Gomez looks like she’s having a great time in the Multiverse of Madness trailer.
That alone is enough to make us smile from ear to ear because America Chavez is one of the MCU’s next-generation heroes. She could be alongside Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova before we know it. Even if it doesn’t happen for a few more years, it’s undeniable that the Young Avengers are coming to the big screen, the small screen, or both. We can’t wait to see America and her iconic right hook be a part of that!

The X-Men Are in the MCU
Someone we didn’t reasonably expect to see in the Multiverse of Madness trailer (and the MCU in general) is Fox’s X-Men. Of course, Disney acquired the rights to Fox and has every right to incorporate them now, but after WandaVisoins’ fake-out with Ralph Bohner, it didn’t seem possible. At least not yet. But here we are — with an MCU trailer that confirms Sir Patrick Stewart‘s return as Professor X.
The trailer tries to play it coy and keeps him off-camera, but there are enough context clues to piece together his identity. Not to mention, Sir Patrick Stewart‘s iconic voice is a dead giveaway. Nevertheless, this reveal is enough to keep our wheel turning until the movie drops in theaters in May. Could this mean Wanda may come face-to-face with Peter Maxmoff? Sir Ian McKellen or Michael Fassbender‘s Magneto?
Could this movie be the set-up Deadpool 3 needs to reunite Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine on-screen — and more importantly, in the MCU?

The Scarlet Witch’s Villain Era Has Arrived
The possibilities are limitless with who could face Doctor Strange, the Scarlet Witch, or both of them in Multiverse of Madness. There are moments in the trailer when it appears as though Wanda is facing Teyonah Parris‘ Monica Rambeau. Then again, other explosions suggest Wanda is facing Fox’s Jean Grey. To which, we say please bring Sophie Turner to the MCU! Her character could use a better ending.
However, the real fight of Multiverse of Madness will be between Stephen Strange and Wanda Maximoff, and, honestly, we can’t wait to see how this one goes. Of course, we all know Wanda is the more powerful of the two. Regardless, it’s exciting to see how Multiverse of Madness already appears like a logical continuation of Wanda’s time in Westview on WandaVision.
There’s a scene where she’s back in Westview interacting with a version of herself, which isn’t shocking because she did something similar in the WandaVision post-credits scene. That scene will surely pack an emotional punch. We started crying seconds in when she mentioned Vision. This movie will be a whirlwind for Scarlet Witch fans — Elizabeth Olsen included. She knows how to command a scene and rally for her character.
Olsen’s line delivery of “You break the rules, you become a hero. I do it, I become the enemy. That doesn’t seem fair” is enough to give us chills. Hopefully, Multiverse of Madness digs into the nuance of that line because it is layered and something worth exploring in the MCU. The terms “hero” and “villain” can get thrown around a lot without considering context and nuance.
One thing is for sure, though, this writer will stand by Wanda in both her hero and villain eras!
