Outlander 6×02 “Allegiance” is still a really packed episode, even if it’s shorter than “Echoes.” It’s also a very emotional one, not always for the right reasons. But that’s on par for the course for this show. Indifferent, never. Outlander always leaves us feeling things.
However, the second episode of the season does a good job at continuing a trend that feels like it’s going to define Season 6, and that is more focus on the characters we are actually invested in, instead of on the new storylines. Yes, the Christies need screen time and the plot of the season has to be developed, but never at the expense of time with Jamie, Claire and their family. They’re the reason we’re watching, after all

Here are some teases for Outlander 6×02 “Allegiance”:
- It’s still not exactly easy to like the Christies, and yet there’s still also not a clear reason to hate them. Instead, we’re living in a very awkward middle ground.
- The relationship between Claire and Marsali gets a chance to shine, and the focus couldn’t be more welcome.
- Roger might just be the MVP of this episode. And not just because his beard is looking glorious these days, but it is.
- An Outlander hour without some hard conversations? What’s that?
- But worry not, there’s also an unintentionally hilarious moment between two characters that will surely lighten the mood.
- Plus, a satisfying Jamie/Claire scene that feels a lot like the Jamie and Claire of old.
- The show hasn’t really focused as much as it could in the relationships between Ian and Marsali or Ian and Brianna, or Fergus and anyone other than Marsali, Jamie and Claire, but it feels like it might be starting to.
- Religion is a very, very powerful force — and the storyline of the season might lie as much in this thought as in the upcoming war. It’s a tricky balance, but so far, so good.
- But, in this episode, the show seems to clearly recognize why we’re still here — the characters we love, and the relationships between them. For better or worse. And though yes, that is mainly Jamie and Claire, it’s also some other dynamics that have gone ignored far too long.
- Not worry? Us? Wouldn’t be an Outlander episode if we didn’t spend some portion of it worried about someone, or everyone.
