Yes, you read that headline right and you are not hallucinating. According to Deadline, Jason Momoa is in early talks to star in the live-action adaptation of the video game Minecraft. Now, no shade to Minecraft. We know plenty of people who grew up with Minecraft and still love it to this day. But the thought of a live-action packed Minecraft starring Momoa is just so out there that we didn’t have it on our 2022 movie bingo card.
Minecraft is a first-person survival game from Mojang Studios. Premiering in November 2011, it is one of the most cherished games played by people of all ages. Seriously, it’s started careers via streamers on Youtube and there are wide and vast communities built around this game. Not to mention the way that people get creative with this game is a thing of wonder that absolutely surpassed what the OG creators intended when they built this game.
Behind-the-scenes of the live-action adaptation are Mary Parent, Roy Lee, and the late Jill Messick. Mojang Studios Lydia Winters and Vu Bui are set to produce. And Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, and Jon Spaihts are set to act as executive producers. Most surprisingly, Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jared Hess is set to direct from a script done by Masterminds Chris Bowman and Hubbell Palmer. Besides that, details are scarce and tightly under wraps.
