Persuasion is possibly Jane Austen’s most underrated novel. Its story – about the enduring nature of love – isn’t the most overtly romantic. At least not in the way romance is typically defined. But is arguably the most mature. Sometimes it really is only through loss that we come to appreciate the love we have.
Because of its underrated nature, Persuasion isn’t retold as often as some others. Which is a shame, really. And it’s also why we were so excited to hear that Netflix would be tackling this novel in a new film staring Dakota Johnson as Anne Elliot, Cosmo Jarvis as Captain Wentworth, and Henry Golding as Mr. Elliot.
To say we’re looking forward to The Letter Scene is an understatement.
Netflix didn’t release many promotional stills. Just enough to get us excited. Check out the new stills (and refresh your memory on the ones that were released last year) below:
Persuasion releases on Netflix on July 15.
