The end of the TVD Universe is here with Legacies 4×20, “Just Don’t Be a Stranger, Okay?” The title alone is bittersweet ahead of such a milestone episode for the franchise. It’s still difficult to fathom such a game-changing franchise ending under these conditions, but it’s essential to remember that it survived 13 years on The CW. That’s no small feat.
Three shows and 13 years later, the TVD Universe will end with Legacies. That weight is a lot for one episode to bear. So, it’s virtually impossible that “Just Don’t Be a Stranger, Okay?” will live up to every fan’s expectations — even with the confirmed (and rumored) cameos.
Nevertheless, Legacies‘ series finale will have TVD fans, old and new, tuning in to see how this franchise tells its last epic tale. Since Julie Plec, the woman who started it all alongside Kevin Williamson, co-wrote the episode with Legacies‘ showrunner Brett Matthews, “Just Don’t Be a Stranger, Okay?” will surely tug at heart strings.
Just from the promo video and very few photos, the emotions are high because everything feels final. It’s undeniable that this is the end, and you can feel that in the poignant tone of the photos and the nostalgic feel of the promo video. Imagine how emotionally overwhelming it will be to see the entire episode on Thursday night.
The first shot in the promo video shows Hope Mikaelson sporting necklaces that symbolize her family. Legacies fans will know them well: Hayley Marshall’s stone, the Mikaelson family crest, and a wishbone. The last time we saw them, Hope handed them over to her aunt Rebekah Mikaelson so Hope could distance herself from her family when her humanity was off.
Could Rebekah be the one to return them when she joins her niece in Mystic Falls to pass down Klaus Mikaelson’s ashes as the family previously decided? Maybe that emotional reunion, of sorts, is what brings about that special cameo we’ve all been waiting to see.
Nonetheless, Legacies has some plot to wrap up in limbo, considering Ethan is Landon’s latest visitor. Moreover, Landon already used his “one-time” rule-breaking powers to send Jed, Kaleb, and MG back to the land of the living. So what could that mean for Ethan?
No matter what, hopefully, everyone makes it out of Legacies with some semblance of peace after everything they’ve been through over the last four seasons. The Super Squad is a resilient group of supernatural teenagers who have saved the world — or at least Mystic Falls — time and time again. They deserve some peace.
