The ending of this season of Partner Track had us screaming at our televisions. We couldn’t believe that we had invested so much in this show to only find out at the end that one of the men we’re obsessed with (yes, we loved Murphy) would betray Ingrid.
We don’t betray Ingrid.
The ending shocked us (we haven’t read the books) and made us flat out of angry. Georgia Lee, who created the show, spoke with Deadline about the ending of the first season. Because hey, lets be honest, the betrayal of taking Ingrid’s partnership spot isn’t really something that is forgivable.
So what does it mean moving forward?
“This is off the charts betrayal, so how can one possibly come back from something like that?” she said when speaking to the site. “We often get notes from our lovely network execs who tell us to make the characters more likable, and I always say that our job as writers is not to make a character more likable, our job is to make a character more understandable.”
She continued by saying, “If you understand where a person is coming from, then you understand why they make the choices they make, and they might not always be the right choices but at least we create that level of empathy and compassion for the character, which I think is much more real to life.”
We really just need to understand why he did it. We know that Murphy is complicated and that his history isn’t something that we know a lot about yet. But, we’re anxious to know why he did what he did. We just don’t think that it’s redeemable, but hey, we’ve been proven wrong before.
Partner Track is streaming now on Netflix.
