Not Okay — “Not Okay” follows Danni Sanders (Zoey Deutch), an aimless aspiring writer with no friends, no romantic prospects and — worst of all — no followers, who fakes an Instagram-friendly trip to Paris in the hopes of boosting her social media clout. When a terrifying incident strikes the City of Lights, Danni unwittingly falls into a lie bigger than she ever imagined. She “returns” a hero, even striking up an unlikely friendship with Rowan (Mia Isaac), a school-shooting survivor dedicated to societal change, and scooping up the man of her dreams, Colin (Dylan O’Brien). As an influencer and advocate, Danni finally has the life and audience she always wanted. But it’s only a matter of time before the facade cracks, and she learns the hard way that the Internet loves a takedown. Rowan (Mia Isaac), shown. Not Okay promises to be a fierce critique of the society we live in and the need to appear on social media to have a life that we really don’t have, just to feel part of something bigger and feel better about ourselves. Just to feel accepted, even to get the attention of that man for whom we didn’t exist before.
But what happens when a lie becomes so big that it starts to eat you up? That’s what happens to Danni Sanders. She gets carried away and ends up wrapped in an ever-widening web of lies. A web of lies so big that it threatens to bring down everything she built based on a house of cards. Yes, definitely, nothing is going to end well for Danni…or is it? There is little left to find out!
