Surfside Girls premieres this Friday! You already know that this show won us over, and to prepare you for what’s to come, we sat down with the stars Miya Cech and YaYa Gosselin and its executive producer May Chan to chat about their characters and the importance of diversity and representation in the show. In addition, you can enjoy three sneak peeks. Ready?
Here we go!
We asked Miya Cech and YaYa Gosselin about the differences and similarities between them and their characters, as well as the bond between Sam and Jade. And you can really, really feel the way that bond became real for them behind the scenes and they put a smile on your face.
We also asked Miya Cech, May Chan, and YaYa Gosselin about the process of creating the show and how their auditions went. Trust us, you’ll love hearing their answers!
Of course, we don’t forget to ask them about the importance of diversity both in Surfside Girls and in the rest of the shows. And it’s clear from their answers that we need to hear a lot more voices and stories like Miya Cech, May Chan, and YaYa Gosselin.
Check Out The Sneak Peeks
In one of the sneaks peeks, we can see how Jade is afraid of separating from her best friend Sam now that they’re growing up and everything seems so different. When we grow up, it’s inevitable to part with childhood friends as our lives take us down different paths.
So Jade’s fear is not trivial. Jade feels like she and Sam are growing up and she doesn’t feel as connected to her best friend anymore…and it scares her because she doesn’t want to lose her. We can all feel identified with that.
In this sneak peek, we see how Sam tries to help one of the characters from another time, even though he is behaving like a misogynistic asshole and doesn’t deserve it. That’s why I love how Sam makes a couple of points clear.
In the latest sneak peek, Sam, Jade, and their new friend manage to plant a tracking device but that leaves us wondering why. Fortunately, there is very little time left to find out!
Surfside Girls is coming to Apple TV+ on August 19.
