And so, with Roswell, New Mexico 4×13, we have come to the end of an amazing era with one of our absolute favorite shows on The CW. Roswell, New Mexico’s series finale was filled with emotion. That’s what this series has always been known for —bringing out the emotions in us all. The characters are relatable, and we’ve come to love them like a family. Saying goodbye sucks. But there were so many wonderful moments throughout these four seasons, and it was a joy to witness them.
Let’s get into our final review of Roswell, New Mexico with episode 4×13 “How’s It Going To Be.”
Now that everyone has been reunited, they have to come together to stop Clyde once and for all. In Roswell, New Mexico 4×12, Clyde revealed that he had absorbed everyone’s powers through Bonnie. This made him as powerful as Jones. Not only that, because Max kissed Bonnie too, Clyde was able to harness his power to wield the blue flame.

This new revelation was one that caught everybody off guard. And once Clyde kidnapped Rosa for the purposes of getting the protein from her blood to utilize her powers for his star map, they all had to come up with a new strategy. With Liz still struggling with the memory loss from her abuse of the alien mist, she needed as much help in the science department as she could get. That included her mentor Allie Meyers (Shiri Appleby).
While it was nice to see Appleby in Roswell, New Mexico 4×13, I will say her showing up in the end felt sort of rushed. We know she was in episode 4×09 “Wild, Wild West.” But technically, that was in Liz’s mind. So, it wasn’t like the two were having a real interaction. If that makes sense. With everything that was going on with Shivani, her partner, it would have been nice to see her show up sooner. They really needed each other.
For us, Shivani was one of those characters that never really grew on us. We always knew she had an ulterior motive. While we ultimately understood why she did what she did because grief is a powerful thing, we still found it hard to excuse her behavior. She hurt a lot of people in the process of trying to bring her daughter back.
With Allie’s guidance, Liz and Kyle are able to come up with a sort of alien Cortisone to make Clyde’s mark reappear. Once that happened, it would prevent him from being able to cross back and forth between Oasis and Earth. Clyde seemed like he was going to win because he had everything he needed in order to make the return back to Oasis. That is until Isobel, Max, and Liz came up with a plan to ambush him.
They were successful in bringing Clyde down, and he was basically obliterated in the first half hour of the series finale. We then turned to happier things, at least partially happy — more on that later — when Malex had their wedding. We always knew we’d eventually get our Malex happily ever after, and it was worth the long wait and all the crazy ups and downs these two went through. And what’s sweeter than marrying your high school sweetheart?

We wish we could say that everyone got their happily ever after in Roswell, New Mexico 4×13, but that was not the case. Kyle and Isobel of course did, and that is something we were beyond happy to see. Those two both deserve all the happiness in the world. Sadly, our Echo didn’t get theirs, and that is so heartbreaking.
Early in the episode, Isobel showed Max a vision that Tezca shared with her. In the vision, Tezca and Louise are standing in a room full of crystals as they observe Max who is a child. As they watch him, they discuss the future of Oasis. Part of that conversation is about him being the savior for them because of his ability to harness the blue flame.
Oasis is dying and on the verge of total collapse. Max is the only one who can help the people there. When Isobel shows him the vision it makes him angry, and we get why. We were a little angry ourselves. Everyone else around Max is getting their happily ever after, so why can’t he? Isobel’s timing was terrible, and we almost wish she hadn’t shown him the vision. That’s the selfish part of us.
The part of us that knows who Max is and what his purpose is can accept that he has to embrace his destiny. It was so sad watching Liz prepare to propose to Max once she realized she was ready to move forward with him. Her timing was bad because at that moment he was telling her he had to go to Oasis so that he could save the people there.

Liz loves Max with all of her heart, and she knows that he has to help his people back home. Like her, he’s always had a specific purpose in life, so she supports him on his new path. Because Liz realizes that love is “a constant state of breaking and remaking,” she knows Max will come back to her like he has in the past. We shouldn’t have been surprised that Max knew Liz was going to propose to him so he beat her to the punch by letting her know that he would accept and wants to be with her when he comes back.
It wasn’t the Echo moment that we all hoped for, but it was true to their love story and their entire journey together.
One thing we have to say is that we’re glad Max didn’t go back to Oasis alone. Just as we predicted, Dallas decided to head there with him. Because Oasis is where Dallas can be the closest to his father Theo, we always expected he’d want to return there. Like his father, Dallas is a kind soul, and his purpose has also been to help those in need. He feels he’s done all that he can on Earth, at least for now. His next step is to help the people back home. We just know he and Max are going to do great things for their people.
Like everyone involved, we weren’t expecting Roswell, New Mexico to be canceled. But this show has given us so much over the years. We’ve enjoyed following every character’s story, and we have enjoyed watching each one grow. While it ended too soon in our opinion, Roswell, New Mexico is a show we can revisit again and again.
Other Things

- Rosa is back in New York living her life and working on her art. We’re happy the show ended with her finding peace.
- “You’re the answer she deserves.” – Maria to Kyle.
- Maria and Dallas became a thing like we wanted, but then he left. Bummer.
- “Dallas makes me feel safe.” – Maria to Kyle.
- We knew Clyde was going to double cross Shivani.
- That mindscape trick Isobel and Max played on Clyde was pretty cool.
- Malex’s wedding. That is all.
- “My husband.” Excuse us while we go cry happy tears.
- “You are my turquoise.” All. The. Echo. Feels.
