The series finale of Roswell, New Mexico is fast approaching, and they are delivering us one heck of a send-off. This week’s episode of Roswell, New Mexico was an emotional one. We can’t believe the end is almost here.
Let’s get into our review of Roswell, New Mexico 4×12 “Two Sparrows In A Hurricane.”
We spent pretty much the entire season of Roswell, New Mexico with Malex separated. Once they were reunited in Roswell, New Mexico 4×11 “Follow You Down” we got a marriage proposal. That was an exciting moment for us until we found out that Alex was dying due to radiation poisoning. In Roswell, New Mexico 4×12 “Two Sparrows In A Hurricane” Alex and Michael were in the midst of trying to have a wedding officiated by Dallas, but things weren’t going as expected.
It’s obvious from Michael’s demeanor that this is not the wedding he envisioned. First of all, it’s rushed because Alex is dying, second, there is a crazy storm happening that’s keeping the occasion from being less than perfect. Though he loves Alex with his whole being, it was no surprise that Michael refused to go through with it. We can’t say we blame him.
We all love Malex and nothing would make us happier than to see them have their moment but not like this. Michael is determined to get himself, Alex, Bonnie, and Dallas out of the pocket dimension and back onto the other side of earth. Then he and Alex can have their wedding. With the Oasian tree destroyed, they have lost their only means of transportation home. Michael is a resourceful guy, and he never gives up. Because he’s spent a lot of time with his buddy Sanders, he realizes that he can dig up parts around the Oasian tree stump to get to the roots where the fruit grows. Only then will they be able to create the fuel needed to get back home.
While this is a good plan, the only problem is that they need Liz to be able to work her scientific magic on the other side. That part is a little bit trickier. As expected, Liz is experiencing side effects from abusing the alien mist she and Shivani created. As she put it, it feels “like someone drilled a hole in my head and the science fell out.” Liz can’t remember all of her scientific experiments and she’s having to rely on others to help her figure things out.

The pressure of having everyone depending on her is so great that she considered taking the alien mist again so that she could be able to save everyone. Because she hates what the alien mist has done to her, and that she hurt her loved ones with the things she did while using, she doesn’t want to go back. She realizes that admitting she needed help was the only way she would be able to help everyone else. Kyle and Rosa do their part to help her, and they let her know that they will be right by her side to help her as much as possible.
Despite what Liz is dealing with, she’s still smarter than she realizes. She’s able to figure out that Shivani took Bonnies DNA and was using it to neutralize Ophiuchus’s brand. This new realization helped her determine that Clyde, who Shivani was now working with, was going after Bonnie in order to remove the brand from his body. Once his tie to the savior AKA Jones was severed, he would be able to travel back and forth between worlds freely. So, in a nutshell, Clyde was looking to become the next Jones.
With time running out for everyone, Max made the decision to get his powers back. Like we said before, we don’t even know why he gave them up in the first place. We knew it was a bad idea and that at some point he would be in desperate need of them. Thank goodness Liz was able to concoct an alien mist that was fast acting because boy, did he need it.

Once he got his powers back, Max had to learn to control them. His biggest fear having the power he has is hurting his loved ones. Isobel can identify with him, so we understand him going to her to help him learn how to harness and control his abilities. She takes him to Tezca who teaches him how to do just that.
What Max learns while training with Tezca is that Liz is where he gets his strength from. He also learns that his fear is controlling him when what he needs to do is acknowledge it. Doing this helps him learn to master it and ultimately figure out how to control the blue flame. The training he gets from Tezca is brief but it’s effective. Once he finishes, he and Isobel go into the pocket dimension to rescue Michael, Dallas, and Bonnie.
While inside the pocket dimension, Max and Isobel, along with Dallas and Michael have to rescue Bonnie from Clyde who kidnapped her in order to get her blood to remove Jones’s brand. As all of this is happening, the storm is continuing to get worse and worse. The sky is literally falling. Everyone finds out from Clyde of all people that Dallas’s dad Theo is the reason for this. The pocket dimension was designed by Theo, and he set up a trap that would have the dimension crush in on itself when triggered by Jones’s DNA.
Because both Max and Michael have Jones’s DNA, the pocket dimension is falling apart quickly and in the worst way. Everyone knows they have to get out of their fast. Michael was able to get the fuel needed from the Oasian tree stump so he and everyone else head to the place where the alien console is to meet back up with Maria where she would set the console up on the other side with Liz and Kyle.

Maria and Rosa have the console on the earth side-or so we thought they did. Turns out, because Maria knew that she was being tailed by Senovative lead by Shivani, she set up a little bait and switch operation. Liz and Kyle are the ones who really have the console and so they set it up to get everyone out of the pocket dimension. It seems like things are going according to plan until Clyde throws a wrench into the plan.
Now that Clyde’s alien tattoo is gone, he is able to roam freely through the portals. Dallas, Bonnie, Michael, Isobel, and Max try to fight Clyde off, but are unable to. The reason for this is because of Bonnies DNA. Clyde informs everyone that Bonnies DNA includes trace DNA from everyone that she’s kissed. This in turn caused Clyde to be able to absorb her powers and everyone else’s. If you’ve been paying attention all season, then you should know because she kissed both Michael and Max, that means that Clyde now has their power as well.
Clyde makes it through the portal and ends up back on the other side of earth while everyone else is still in the pocket dimension. Unbeknownst to the whole group, Tezca has gone into the pocket dimension. She encourages Max to use the power of the blue flame to hold back the storm created by Theo. Dallas also helps Max as well. Everyone is then able to get out of the pocket dimension except for Tezca. Isobel is devastated that she’s now going to be stuck in there and she refuses to go back to the other side.
Tezca knew that she was sacrificing herself by going into the pocket dimension and she’s okay with that. She feels that this is her way of making amends for all the people she killed for Jones. It’s obvious that Isobel is deeply affected by her mentor’s loss and once she makes it back to the other side, she is ready to take on Clyde who is now holding the rest of the people she loves.
With one more episode of Roswell, New Mexico to come, it seems like the writers have been preparing us all season long to see Isobel be the one to save the day. If that’s the case, we don’t think this is such a bad thing.
Other Things

- The “Malex Forever” sign. ALL. THE. FEELS.
- The audacity of Shivani to steal Max, Michael, and Isobel’s alien pods.
- Kybel. That is all.
- Kyle and Isobel’s kiss. That “Oh my God” Isobel delivered after Kyle kissed her (Insert heart eye emoji/flame emoji).
- Liz finally recognizing that she needed help was a big deal. She’s always so busy trying to act like she’s got everything under control but this time she just couldn’t.
- The person Maria is closest to is Dallas huh?
- It was heartbreaking to see that Dallas thought his dad wasn’t a good person because he booby trapped the pocket dimension to destroy itself and anyone remaining. It’s good he has a friend like Isobel to remind him that wasn’t true. Theo did what he had to do to protect the world.
- Shivani is such a pain in the a$$
- So, all the men in Bonnie’s life are just manipulators. Jones and Clyde made her think the Ophiuchus brand was rejecting her because she was weak when that wasn’t true. Her ability was so strong that IT rejected the mark.
- Isobel is so ready to rip Clyde apart after losing Tezca. Their showdown is going to be epic.
