Part of me think that I like Catherine and then there are parts of me that realize that’s a bad choice on my part. I think about all that she’s survived, but then I remember that it has made her cunning and untrustworthy. Catherine thinks of herself first – which isn’t always a bad thing – but also isn’t also always a good thing.
There has to be a balance.
Catherine does what she wants to, in order to protect herself from anything and everything. It seems as though if she’s telling you that she’s your friend, she’s actually your enemy.
And she seems to be setting Rahima up for the fall. But then again, I don’t trust Rahima either. Part of me feels like the French Court is/was the prequel for The Hunger Games.
She tells Rahima that the letter she got, was proof that Queen Mary was conspiring with her cousin, Queen Elizabeth, to take her down. She needs proof, feeding some bullshit that their futures are intertwined.
And I call it bullshit, because the thing is Catherine is never on the up and up. We all see it. But I think that we’re supposed to overlook it. But lets get to the manipulation.
We mean, the story. The one that Catherine is feeding Rahima?

Catherine is telling Rahima how she knew she was a Queen in name only. She didn’t like it that way, but it was the way it was. She feels like Henri is doing everything that he can to keep Diane involved, including incorporating a D into the royal crest. Catherine notices it and she’s not going to let it go.
You can just tell that this is something that she’s going to find a way to fix, even if it kills her. Catherine is a realist, she knows what is right in front of her. But she also knows what she needs to be done. She takes the wins where they can come from and also takes the losses. But what she needs to do is smack the shit out of Henry, because he’s just playing games and that shit is hella annoying.
Henri enters Catherines room and wants to talk to his wife. He’s willing to tell her that she’s right – which I think is the right path. BUT, I also think that Henri’s an idiot and he’s going to end up doing whatever Diane tells him to do no matter what. Like not to be crude, but what does this woman have? Does she have a platinum pussy? I said what I said, and I don’t regret it.
Diane is just annoying. It’s annoying that no one seems to call her out for being a straight up creep for the way she is with Henri. Like you are TWICE his age, girl. You aren’t like marriage material. You’ve groomed him, you’ve made his Mommy issues your cup of tea.
You’re disgusting.

Henri does do something right, by making Catherine his regent and I can appreciate that. We all know that the privy council is going to be pissed, as they aren’t going to listen. I’ve never understood why men have to have the my balls are big fight with people all the time. No one cares.
Do your job.
And before we get into what dumb fucks some are, lets take a second to recognize how stupid that Henri is for letting Diane ride to battle with him. And that’s not even about her. That’s about him.
That’s about how he needs to be smarter, because all he just did was make himself look weak.
But hey, back to Catherine and her regency.
The Guises and Bourbons are definitely not going to be paying attention to shit, because they’re a bunch of my balls are big kinda men, even though their balls have receded into their stomachs and they are gross. Catherine is going to go to them to see what is up, but of course, all they are going to do is angle for what is going to help them.
Catherine, on the other hand is taking all the crap that they are angling for and knowing that she isn’t about to put up with this. She’s going to learn and forge her own path.
She’s going to honor Henri’s request and get him more money. She’s going to go to Parliament and get what she needs.

And like the Queen she is, she does. She makes a valid point by saying that people just want to be heard. She’s not wrong. It’s where most people in leadership go wrong in dealing with people who they are supposed to lead. They get so caught up in their own feelings that they ignore the wants of the people.
Catherine promises the Protestants, and audience with the King. This is a big thing. This is a huge thing. Of course they are going to take her up on the deal. It’s going to make Henri happy, but it’s also a bad thing.
Why?
Because Diane. See, Catherine doesn’t know what’s going on with Diane, but she’s loosing her damn mind. Why? Because Angelica is giving her liquid gold, telling her that it will make her young.
My question is why is no one loyal? Angelica sure as fuck is not. She’s going behind Catherines back and aligning with Diane? Ugh, the grossness of it all. The thing is Angelica doesn’t know what she’s doing and all of the gold that Diane is swallowing is making her loose her shit.
So much that when the Protestant comes to speak to Henri and speaks his mind, as he was promised that he could, Diane doesn’t STFU and shit her ass down. Instead she speaks loudly and causes a lot of issues. When the man, Pierre Marquez, who was speaking his mind goes to leave the room, Diane slits his throat.
Of course she says that she did it for Henri and he’s so pussy whipped, that he acts like she did nothing. Instead he runs to her side and kisses and coddles her.
How the hell does Henri not have any shame? Do these people take him seriously? Catherine has made a lot of these idiots at court irrelevant, but Henri keeps giving Diane validity, even when she deserves none.
Is he high? Cause I want the drugs he’s on.
But the biggest reason this pisses me off is that we had just seen him take Catherine on a ride and given Chenonceaux to her. But hey, is anyone shocked that Henri let his dick take control?
For once, I actually felt bad for Catherine, because again, she’s shifted to the side in order to make room for Diane. It’s enough. So she rides to Chenonceaux with her ladies, only to find Diane there with Angelica.
Has Henri no shame? We’re pretty sure he doesn’t. Also his father apparently didn’t teach him that no one should control him. But Henri seems to get off on letting Diane control him.
Sorry, not sorry, I am just frustrated by the whole thing.
Rahima takes this whole story and says that she’ll go look in Mary’s rooms. Bad idea, but at the same point, Catherine has protected you from worse. Only when Catherine is then taking a walk with Mary and tells one of her maids to go fetch her a sweater, getting Rahima caught.
Like for real? Catherine… just when we were feeling for you.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Really getting tired of all the old/young relationships. I know it was acceptable in the time, but ew.
- Henri’s haircut has obviously impended his thoughts, as well as his manhood (if he has any) – someone slap that man
- Antoinette de Guise is smart, but also stupid. She’s making her sons chumps.
- Coulda gone without seeing Montmorency and Ruggiero again
- Montmorency and wanting to buy the young girl – like ick. And then her wanting to go with him. NOOOO! Do better for yourself. Just no.
- Angelica is unloyal bitch.
- Aabis seems to be the only person with any sense
