We all had our favorite toys to play with as kids. For some of us, those toys were dolls. As we grew up those toys got more and more sophisticated and were eventually able to do things like talk to us. We’ll be honest, some of the toys that could talk to us were a little on the creepy side. But we don’t think any of them were as creepy as M3GAN.

M3GAN is a Model Three Generation Android created by Gemma (Allison Williams) a robotics engineer at a toy company. The life-like doll she’s built begins to bond with her niece Katie (Violet McGraw) after she loses them in a tragic accident. At first, it seems like the doll is the perfect thing for her until it begins to take on a life of its own.
Also, who knew that a Taylor Swift song like It’s Nice to Have a Friend could sound so chilling?
Friendship has evolved
M3GAN’s goal is to protect Katie from harm, both physical and emotional, and based on this trailer she’s doing exactly that. The thing is, it seems that both Katie and Gemma need protection from her because M3GAN is cray cray. From the moment she opened her eyes and said, “do you want to hang out?” we would have been like “Nope, I’m out.” She’s creepy as hell and what’s with those dance moves? I mean, are we jealous she’s got better moves than us? maybe.

Though we’re extremely creeped out by M3GAN, we’re going to give this film a watch because it sort of reminds us of Orphan. You know if Esther was a doll. Although, we think M3GAN might have given her a run for her money. One thing that we’re sure of is this movie is just reminding us that we do not need to create toys that can chill with us like humans. That never works out. We thought people learned that with Chucky. Apparently not.
The screenplay for M3GAN was written by Akela Cooper and James Wan. The film was directed by Gerard Johnstone. The film is set to release next year but we wish it was coming out this month because it definitely would have been the perfect Halloween treat.
