Episode 1×07 of Hulu’s Reasonable Doubt is all about Lewis and it was illuminating to say the least.
I have never desired to be in a man’s brain. After this episode I don’t really want to. Some of these men’s points were warranted, but most of the time they were acting crazy.
While Lewis has been in most of the episodes so far, I’ve found it hard to like him or even warm to him,. While I understood some of the reasons why Jax and he were separated, from Jax’s point of view, we never saw the full picture and in this episode of Reasonable Doubt we do.
Throughout this series it become glaringly clear that Jax is not an easy person to get along with. She always thinks she’s right, doesn’t back down and is somewhat selfish. She puts herself first, which isn’t always necessarily a bad thing, but in marriage, you can’t really do that. She doesn’t compromise.
Reasonable Doubt has definitely taught us that you need to be there for others, especially in a relationship.
But this week we definitely realized the importance of it, as we saw Lewis and JT discuss their marriages.
From the last episode, we know that JT is not a model husband. He is not a man who we would ever want to encounter. It is safe to say he’s a walking red flag. We were suspicious of him and the way he justifies everything. JT thinks that abusing his wife is a way to keep her in line.
JT tells Lewis that women don’t respect them unless they demand. JT is an idiot. Lewis, is also wrong, because he is considering listening to Jax is wrong because we know Jax is difficult but the way these men are going about solving their problems just seems wrong and toxic. However, this seems to be the way most people sort out their problems in Reasonable Doubt, and we feel that the show is suggesting that we shouldn’t judge them.
We are judging.
The discussion between the men at JT’s party was really important because while the dynamic can easily be written off as toxic and it is, the men argue that women know who they married. They say that you knew who they were so why are you complaining now. BECAUSE A PERSON CAN!
The show clarified so much in terms of Jax and Lewis’s separation because they both want different things out of life but it took them two kids in all these years to figure out that neither of them were ever going to change and so where does that leave them?
Despite that, I do think the end of this series we will see the couple back together. This is because as a viewer we are getting a vibe that Damon is not as nice as he seems to be, especially as we see him delete Will’s text from Jax’s phone. This is another red flag for us.
This episode was a red flag for all the men.
I expected Lewis to finally find out about Jax and Damon. The fact he got back in his car and drove off suggests he’s done with Jax. However, from the moment Lewis finally told his brother that he and Jax are separated it was clear a divorce was imminent for the couple.
What did you think of Reasonable Doubt episode 1×07?
OTHER THOUGHTS
- The whole JT party was a lot but it confirmed that showrunners main focus when portraying sex is female pleasure which is often not portrayed accurately on screen but they do it well.
- Something has definitely gone on with Jax’s stepfather Paul and I hope we see it soon because I feel like its been dragged out long enough
- Finding out Jax is a Virgo makes so much sense
- Sarah Miller is using some reverse psychology on Brayden acting like she is protecting her family and its going to blow up in her face. Hopefully in court.
