Just when we thought that A Quiet Place couldn’t get any better, it has proved us wrong with the news that Lupita Nyong’o, star of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, will be joining the film franchise. Nyong’o is set to star in the upcoming spinoff A Quiet Place: Day One.
This is exciting news because, as you know, we enjoyed both A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. What makes us even more excited about it is that it will bring a new set of fans to a film franchise they may not have previously checked out. The premise of both films was so uniquely done, so this new installment will more than likely be as well.
Nyong’o being added to this world will bring on a different audience, and a new set of experiences told through the eyes of a person of color. Those are the stories we need to see, especially in the horror universe because, let’s face it, that’s one where diversity continues to lack severely. Plus, we know Nyong’o can pull this off.
We already know that Nyong’o is a phenomenal actress, and she was able to hold her own in a dual role when she starred in Jordan Peele’s creepy film Us. Not only that, but this woman is a badass action star, okay? It’s time film studios started recognizing POC actresses’ talent in genres like these and how much they can hold their own.
We loved watching Emily Blunt’s journey in the first two films, but we can’t wait to see this from Nyong’o’s point of view. A Quiet Place: Day One is going to be an entirely new story, and while the plot is being kept under wraps, we know the spinoff is based on an idea from John Krasinski. A Quiet Place was a film that kept us guessing, so we’re curious about what this next world will introduce us to.
A Quiet Place: Day One is currently in pre-production and is set to be directed by Michael Sarnoski. The release date is set for March 8, 2024. Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller will produce the film via Platinum Dunes along with Krasinski via his Sunday Night Banner, with partner Allyson Seeger, who serves as Executive Producer.
