“None of us are the same people we were twenty years ago.”
Who would have thought that a book could cause so much drama? Get ready to go back to the beginning when The Best Man: The Final Chapters releases this December on Peacock. The limited series is a spinoff of the famous The Best Man movie franchise directed by Malcolm D. Lee and will reunite us with our favorite group of long-time friends.
In The Best Man: The Final Chapters “the series will catch up with Harper, Robyn, Jordan, Lance, Quentin, Shelby, Candace, and Murch as relationships evolve and past grievances resurface in the unpredictable stages of midlife crisis meets midlife renaissance.”
Of course, those past grievances referred to in this synopsis would be Harper’s infamous book Unfinished Business. If you’re familiar with the first film in the franchise, The Best Man, you know that all the drama started because Harper released a book about him and his friends. Sure, he changed the characters’ names, but the personalities were so spot-on that everyone could figure out he was talking about them.
A whole lot of dirty laundry was aired out because of that, and that’s one of the reasons people say authors shouldn’t write their family or friends into their books. It can cause many issues if you don’t paint them in such a positive light. Or, if you pull a Harper and write about sleeping with your best friend’s girlfriend in college, who later becomes his fiancé. And you’re the best man for their wedding.
Because Unfinished Business was one of Harper’s most successful books, he couldn’t escape it. He thought he could put it all behind him, and he even patched things up with Lance. Now, his agent is coming to him with the news that Hollywood is calling and wants to turn it into a movie. What could go wrong?
From the looks of the teaser that Peacock released, things will be interesting. We can’t wait to see how Harper plans on approaching Lance with that news because we all know how he feels about that book. The cast looks fantastic, and we’re already feeling nostalgic just from this. We do have some questions about how Lance is doing after losing Mia (Monica Calhoun) because he looks a little bit off in the teaser, so he may not be doing that great right now.
The Best Man: The Final Chapters stars Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Nia Long, Sanaa Lathan, Terrence Howard, Regina Hall, Melissa De Sousa, and Harold Perrineau.
