When I reflect on my love of Christmas movies, it doesn’t start with movies like It’s A Wonderful Life. It starts with The Santa Clause.
I can remember sitting on the couch with my little brother and answering questions about Santa Claus. It was always hard to explain to him that Santa Claus can pass away and that it’s not the same person forever. In the same breathe it alway made it easier to explain why Santa Claus was alway different at the mall.
And, he’d kill me for saying this, but he got excited about the possibility that he could possibly be Santa Claus one day.
This franchise just meant everything and still sticks with us.
The magic of movies is that they allow you to suspend reality. The Santa Clause franchise has alway done that for me. So I was definitely excited to sit down and talk to Elizabeth Mitchell and Austin Kane.
I think I was needing some joy.
No truer words have been spoken. We feel the same way.
The series will be about, “Scott Calvin is on the brink 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two kids who have grown up at the Pole. With a lot of elves, children, and family to please, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement Santa while preparing his family for a new adventure in a life south of the pole.”
The Santa Clauses stars Tim Allen as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus, Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol / Mrs. Claus, Kal Penn as Simon Choksi, Elizabeth Allen-Dick as Sandra, Austin Kane as Cal, Rupali Redd as Grace Choksi, Devin Bright as Noel, and Matilda Lawler as Betty.
The Santa Clauses will premiere with the first two episodes of the six episode series on November 16.
