The Mean One just dropped its official trailer and it’s just as questionable as Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
It tells the story of a young woman Cindy and the murder that rocked her small sleepy mountain town. Who did it? A bloodthirsty green figure in a red Santa suit of course! And 20 years later, Grinch-like character is back to terrorize Christmas go-ers. But don’t worry. Cindy is ready. She has been ready. Training to get the revenge that she craves just as much as The Grinch wants to murder apparently.
In the trailer, which absolutely put its entire budget into The Grinch costume (which, respect), it’s as cheesy as you’d expect. There’s even a bat with Christmas lights around it, a shotgun that is candy cane colors, and a bunch of Christmas go-ers who don’t know what’s coming for them. But the most horrifying part of it is The Grinch, who is played by David Howard Thornton who also plays Art the Clown. If you know, you know. If you don’t, don’t look it up. Unless you want to be forever shattered by The Terrifier.
Why did Steven LaMorte decide to direct this and destroy our childhoods? No idea. But will I watch it? Probably. Low-budget movies like this spend way more time giving you practical effects that feel kind of satisfying in a world where everything is digital. Also, they’ve found something in Thornton, who scares the hell out of me as I’m typing this and looking down at the trailer below. That man is an actorrrr. And I hope that opening night for The Mean One ends up being as weird, cheesy, and horrifying as this trailer looks.
