One more week, we are back! The Rookie: Feds 1×09 “Flashback” focuses mainly on the case of the week and, yes, the title is a hint that we revisit Garza’s past in an explosive and rather heartbreaking way. Ready?
Here we go!
The Past Doesn’t Forgive in The Rookie: Feds 1×09 “Flashback”
The past always comes back to bite us in the ass, especially when it’s unresolved. The Rookie: Feds 1×09 “Flashback” is just one more proof of this reality. This episode dealt almost entirely with the case, which was directly connected to Garza’s past.
However, the episode showed us how the team comes together to save one of their own. So much so that even Catherine came to her senses…in the end. It seems that her desire to go after Garza has already ended because she verified who he really is. But the team already knew. We love that everyone trusted Garza with their eyes closed and none had doubts about his innocence. A family, indeed.
We have to confess that we were also surprised that Garza called Simone, but it makes sense. He knows that she is intuitive by nature and that she would fight to the end for the truth. Garza knows that the rest of the team would do it too, but Simone wouldn’t mess around or be nice, she would solve the mystery and catch the bad guys, regardless of the consequences or the dishes she had to break for it.
She’s a torpedo who goes straight to the target no matter what mess she leaves behind, and that’s just what Garza needed: someone who would dig to the bottom no matter what trash she turned up. In addition, Garza carried the weight of Camille’s death and this case for years.
He was convinced that the CIA agent was the traitor, but he wasn’t ready to revisit that case and do something about it. It hurt too much. Garza could only survive by leaving everything behind. Circumstances and memories brought this case back to his life and he realized that he was ready to know the truth… because now it would not destroy him.
Explore New Possibilities
There was also time for…love? in The Rookie: Feds 1×09 “Flashback.” Laura contacts Mark again and it is clear that he is interested in her and we love to see how Laura is gradually opening up to the possibility of meeting this guy who didn’t hesitate to help her and trust her, despite everything that was at stake. We like the idea of them spending the holidays together.
I’m still betting on a couple between Laura and Brendon in the long term but they both still have a long way to go to get there. Meanwhile, Laura starting to open up to the possibility of a relationship with Mark is a great first step, don’t you think?
Tense Endings in The Rookie: Feds 1×09 “Flashback”
We are not mistaken in saying that the end of The Rookie: Feds 1×09 “Flashback” left us on the edge of our seats biting our nails. Nothing can happen to Garza! Someone has to find him, get him to the hospital, and he has to recover.
Rationally, we know that this will be just what will happen. That is, this is the first season of the show and a minor – but still important to the story – character cannot get out of it. It would be a risk that the series doesn’t have to take. In addition, it doesn’t seem that the actor has any intention of leaving the show. So that leads us to the conclusion that Garza will be safe.
However, that doesn’t prevent us from having our hearts in a fist and wanting to confirm that nothing bad is going to happen to Garza like NOW.
The Rookie: Feds season 1 airs Tuesdays at 10/9 on ABC.
