After a week, we’re back! In The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown” Simone and Carter have their first serious fight while Brendon seems cuter and braver than ever. Ready?
Here we go!
Facing Positions in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown”

Simone and Carter have their first serious big fight in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown.” At first, Carter couldn’t stand Simone because she fell out of the mold and he was her opposite, but over time, he grew to appreciate her. That’s why this fight hurts us even more.
We understand both sides in this fight. Simone just wants to put her loved ones on notice of what is happening, so that they can be safe. And she doesn’t understand that Carter isn’t thinking of doing the same. So when she doesn’t see any other way out, she tells Cutty even though she doesn’t reveal exactly what’s going on.
Simone does whatever it takes for the people she loves, and that includes breaking a few rules if she has to because all she cares about is that her loved ones are safe and well. We would all do the same. But she’s not just anyone… she’s an FBI agent.
And here we come to the position of Carter, who is Simone’s counterpoint in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown.” Carter understands Simone because he feels the same. He would also want to run and tell everyone he cares about to be safe. But he can’t do it.
And not just because those are the FBI rules, but because those rules exist for a reason. Warning anyone, including loved ones, would fuel mass hysteria, and that doesn’t do anyone any favors. If they knew how many times in a week they are about to die, right there, on the precipice, they couldn’t stand it.
The only way they can and should keep them safe is to neutralize the threat. It’s the only safe way. So while both positions are understandable, Carter is right this time.
Family Fights

Simone and Cutty are one of the reasons we love this show and The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown” is no exception. Simone is ready to protect her father even from himself. She’s worried about what might happen to him but he’s so stubborn that he’s determined to have things his way, no matter what.
This little fight ends abruptly when Cutty realizes that something serious is going on and that Simone is at the epicenter of whatever is going on. No matter how many confrontations they have or how much they yell at each other, they love each other and that will always come first.
At the end of the day, it’s all that matters and they’ll always be there for each other. And it’s nice to see such a beautiful father-daughter relationship.
Facepalm for Brendon in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown”

When Brendon tells Antoinette that he scorned her gift like that in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown” it was like…facepalm, dude! Antoinette is a very closed person who for the first time did something that came from her heart and opened up a little to someone unknown. Antoinette decided to let her control slip a bit to open herself up to the possibility of letting Brendon into her life.
The moment Brendon tells her what he did with that meaningful gift, something in Antoinette snaps. She never trusts anyone and she decided to let go and open up to trusting Brendon but he threw that trust back in her face. That reminds Antoinette why she shouldn’t let anyone in.
However, when Brendon confesses to Antoinette what happens in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown” I forgave him, just like Antoinette did. We already have one more piece of information about Brendon’s past: he is an alcoholic.
And a very brave one because he not only dared to seek help but also to get rid of a temptation despite having it so close. It must not have been easy for Brendon to have that bottle of wine in his hand and not only not drink it, but also give it to someone else to protect his sobriety.
Brendon is Cute, Period

Brendon’s sincerity makes Antoinette realize that she wasn’t wrong to let Brendon into her life. She likes Brendon but she needs to get to know him more… for now, she can only offer him a reluctant friendship, and Brendon is fine with that.
And talking about Brendon, he’s super cute but a pen as a gift is too obvious – and not just because of the packaging. The gift that he gives Laura at the end of The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown” is much better because it is personal and thought especially for her.
Brendon watches and listens to her. Only then does he get to know her a little better and find the perfect gift for her. And I love that the show slowly but surely continues to develop the relationship between the two, identifying where each is at right now and laying the groundwork for a future relationship.
Other Stuff in The Rookie: Feds 1×07 “Countdown”

- Diggle, we miss you! David Ramsay on our screens is always good and I love seeing him on this show. Also, it seems that his character may have a chance given the fun tug-of-war with Simone and his relationship with Cutty. I like it!
- Big Food…yeah, for me it’s still a no.
- I still don’t understand Tracy. I try…but I can’t understand her. Garza has another way of doing things but that way works. He behaves not only like a boss, but also like a partner, and that keeps the team together and gives them confidence that they wouldn’t get otherwise. Yes, he sometimes has to act just like a boss and stay on the sidelines but most of the time that’s not his thing and there’s nothing wrong with it. I don’t understand why Tracy is so intent on ending something that works.
- I miss Dina!
