We are back with a new job! Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job” is about Eliot and how his past returns unexpectedly, sensing that he is ready to face it. Ready?
Here we go!
The Past in Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job”

Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job” has an undisputed leader and that is Eliot Spencer. The episode brought his past to the fore and the way he dealt with it speaks to character growth.
It’s not the first time someone on the team has faced his past, it’s not even the first time for Eliot. But he’s used to working alone and every time he had to face his past, that’s just what he tried to do. In Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job” that changes.
Although Eliot initially has the urge to withdraw into himself and go it alone, he’s glad that Harry is there, right by his side, and that he has a team behind him. The team is made up of people who were used to not only working alone but to have no one to cover their backs. They got used to not having anyone to give a shit about what happened to them.
That all changed when they teamed up. They found people they could count on and who cared about them. While it was hard to get used to at first because they were afraid it was too good to be true, over the years, everyone knows they can lean on each other, and Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job” is proof of it.
Friendship is a Precious and Scarce Gift

But it’s not just the team showing their unity in Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job,” but also Paul and Eliot. Because yes, the dead doctor wasn’t so dead and he scared the hell out of Eliot – and us – when he showed up out of the blue. But more than that, it hurt Eliot that Paul didn’t trust him and would rather make him suffer with a fake death than confess what was happening.
And looking at it from that side, Eliot is right. However, we quite understand Paul’s point. He felt ashamed of what he’d done and didn’t feel up to facing Eliot for fear of disappointing him. So he took the easiest – and cowardly – healing by faking his death.
But when a friend is true, he/she will always be there, no matter what, having your back. And that’s just what Eliot does in Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job.” He doesn’t care what Paul did, he doesn’t even hold a grudge against him for faking his death, he only cares that his friend needs help… and he’ll be by his side. Paul can count on him.
The Family in Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job”

In the end, it all works out pretty well, and Eliot feels ready to face his past. He never wanted to revisit those memories, not even to get over them. But now he has a family to count on who will be there for him no matter what his past reveals. Now, Eliot feels at home and safe, so for the first time, he is willing to seek help to overcome his past healthily. For the first time, Eliot feels ready to face himself.
Leverage: Redemption 2×05 “The Walk in the Woods Job” is about family and that’s exactly what it shows: the team as a family and the way they have each other’s backs and can count on each other. That is a privilege that not everyone has.
