After a week, we’re back! The Rookie: Feds 1×08 “Standoff” focuses almost entirely on the case of the week but there are a couple of details that we have to comment on. Ready?
Here we go!
Not So Cheerful Welcomes in The Rookie: Feds 1×08 “Standoff”

Simone has two children! It was a real surprise when we saw them appear in The Rookie: Feds 1×08 “Standoff” but we fell in love with them from that moment on. Although the arrival of her children not only brings joy to Simone but also some displeasure regarding her daughter. She dropped out of college and Simone, not surprisingly, goes mad.
She worked very hard to give her children a good education so they could be whatever they wanted to be. Knowing that her daughter dismissed that effort as if it were nothing and, on top of it, she lied to her about it angers her, hurts her, and disappoints her. So Simone can’t even hear her when she finally confesses to her.
But no matter what happens, Simone is proud of her children, and even though she sometimes gets mad at them beyond words, that doesn’t change the love she feels for them. She doesn’t even know how proud she is of both of them. When everything ends and she is calmer, she finally feels able to listen to her daughter.
Her daughter is aware of Simone’s effort to give her the best education and that is precisely why she was afraid of disappointing her if she told her that she felt miserable at that university studying something she hates. She tried to do it, for her mother, but at the end of the day, it’s her future and she got to a point where she couldn’t fake it anymore. But the fear that her mother would be disappointed in her grew bigger every day.
Fear and shame. She doesn’t want to disappoint Simone but she also doesn’t feel good not knowing what she wants in her life. She wants to know, she wants to settle down, and grow. But growing up isn’t something she can rush. And Simone is not disappointed in The Rookie: Feds 1×08 “Standoff,” on the contrary, she will support her daughter and be there for her as she finds herself and what she wants.
Simone doesn’t want her daughter to do anything to satisfy others, not even her, she just wants her to be happy, the way she has to be. And that is the definition of being a mother in capital letters.
The Fear of Rejection Due to Change

I still love Laura and Brendon very much. In The Rookie: Feds 1×08 “Standoff” we continue to learn a little more about his past. Brendon radically changed his life. Sometimes it is not easy to reintroduce yourself to people who have known you for a long time when you have changed so much. The fear of rejection, the explanations that they will ask you for, and that you no longer fit in with those people, in the same way, assist you beyond words.
That’s just what happens to Brendon. So he opted for the easiest solution: cut all ties with them. But that’s not fair because he didn’t give them the chance to meet the person he became, he didn’t give them the chance to show that they are his true friends. Because no matter what happens or how much of your life changes, if a friendship is sincere it will last.
And Brendon has to give them the chance to get to know him and the credit that they’re better than just brushing him off because he’s not up for the crazy parties and excesses anymore.
Other Stuff in The Rookie: Feds 1×08 “Standoff”

- NEVER underestimate a Black woman.
- Helena is tremendously sincere. I laughed at that moment. Sorry, not sorry.
- I loved the last scene. The team is a family and everyone is celebrating Thanksgiving after a hard day.
- Cutty and Simone’s enigmatic goodbyes, my goodness, this man is going to have a heart attack. I hope Simone keeps her promise and doesn’t scare him to death every time.
- The best definition of screaming ever, Simone!
