The RMS Titanic may have infamously only had one voyage across the Atlantic, but its legacy lives on through James Cameron‘s Titanic. It will be celebrating its 25th anniversary with a theatrical re-release in time for Valentine’s Day this year, and it has a shiny new trailer and poster to mark the occasion. (On that note, however, if you’re old enough to have seen it on its first theatrical showing without the need for the presence of a parent or guardian, don’t forget to take pain medicine for your back.)
For those who have somehow failed to catch Cameron’s epic film (which used to span two VHS tapes, if you can believe that!), the film stars such powerhouse actors as Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Kathy Bates, Victor Garber, and the late Bill Paxton and took home 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Visual Effects. Titanic grounds the infamous tragedy through the romance between Jack and Rose, who hail from different classes but fall in love on the RMS Titanic during its fateful maiden voyage. Check out the trailer for more:
Love or hate Cameron’s work, he knows how to tell an emotional story. And Titanic has something for everyone. For those with a soft spot for romance, Jack and Rose’s story is one for the ages. For those looking for a bit more spectacle, the drama and special effects surrounding the actual sinking are top-notch. Adding an extra emotional punch to the entire affair, Cameron included glimpses into the stories of real victims of the tragedy, including Isidor and Ida Straus, who chose to go down with the ship to give others a chance to survive. (For my money, the mother reading to her children gets me every time.)
And since you don’t do half-measures on anything relating to Titanic, the re-release will be remastered in 4K 3D and is accompanied by a new poster marking the occasion.
Titanic will re-release in theaters starting February 10, 2023.
