P.S. I Love You is an iconic romance film. It’s a rare adaptation that is as good as the book, one could argue it’s one of the only good roles that Gerard Butler has ever had. Or maybe it’s the only one that he showed that he could act in.
One of our favorite scenes in the movie is when Gerry, played by Butler, dances ridiculously, in his suspenders. If you recall, the buckle breaks off his suspenders and well, later on in the movie, the buckle is inspiration for Holly’s shoe line.
Yes, that ridiculous scene is one of our favorites because it goes to show how memories are important and even the things that we thought could/would be ridiculous are the things that we keep with us. But that’s just my philosophical, watched too many movies, mind talking.
Gerard Butler was on The Drew Barrymore Show and talked about how in the filming of that scene, he ended up sending co-star Hilary Swank to the hospital.
The clip slashed Swank’s forehead when it flew, cutting her. He explained, “It got stuck, it released] and [flew] over my head. I cut her open. You could even see the teeth [of the clip]. She had to get taken to the hospital.”
We can’t even imagine what that was like for her, but him also. We would have been mortified and also been like ya, not refilming that scene. But we are glad that they did, because it is romance film iconic.
