Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey are working on a sequel and honestly…it sounds more terrifying than the first one.
In an SFX exclusive, the movie’s director Rhys Waterfield said, “Terrifier 2 is going to be one of my key reference points. I want to make sure I go as big and epic as they went with that. I want to try and push it even more.” He also went on to say that the main franchises that he’s drawn inspiration for this Christopher Robin AU are Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Wrong Turn.
Now, these last three I can understand. They are staples of the horror genre and everyone has been inspired by one or all three of them. That’s not what I’m terrified about. I’m terrified at Waterfield getting inspiration from Terrifier 2. For those not in the know, this sequel featuring Art the Clown is absolutely bonkers. Just clink the link above and check out how he looks. That’s scary enough.
Don’t let the 86% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes fool you. This is gore, unlike any slasher you’ve seen before. And yes, it pushes the boundaries of storytelling and brings something new to the horror genre. But personally, it goes too far and relies too heavily on grossing you out. And just imagining the Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey sequel going that way makes it something that I’m not interested in.
That’s not to say I’m dumping on anyone else’s parade. I still plan on watching Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey to see what this fanfic monstrosity is all about. But anything past that? Nah. It’s not for me. So make sure to check your local theater for the release of the first Winnie the Pooh slasher.
Also on a side note, there’s going to be an original motion picture soundtrack released on February 8, 2023.
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey hits select theaters on February 15, 2023.
