Valentine’s Day will soon be upon us, and we’re about to be saturated with all things lovey-dovey. That means our ears will be flooded with love songs galore. But who says that every love song you hear has to be sugary sweet, and gooey? There are many facets to love, and we thought we would showcase that by creating our own Valentine’s Day music playlist.
Love can come in a lot of different forms. It doesn’t have to be romantic love, either. Self-love is just as important. And it’s also important to acknowledge the ups and downs of a relationship too. Hopefully, our Valentine’s Day playlist is one you can enjoy and fits exactly what you’re looking for — no matter what that is.
These songs are listed in no particular order.
Kiss of Life – Sade
You can never go wrong with Sade. You can choose almost any of her love songs because each one is just perfection. Her voice is incredibly soothing, and she makes you feel all the love feels. “Kiss of Life” is one of our personal favorites because the lyrics are beautiful and describe the feeling of being in love in such a romantic way.
Lavender Haze – Taylor Swift
In “Lavender Haze,” Swift showcases what it’s like to be so in love that you drown out all the noise from outsiders. It’s all about being present with the one you love. Most importantly it’s a reminder that your relationship is your own and you don’t have to let others try to come in and take that away. That’s something we can get behind.
In Love – Kid Cudi
There is no greater feeling than falling in love. That’s what Cudi’s spacey track is saying. “In Love” is all about falling in love with someone and wanting to tell them how much you love them. It’s an indescribable feeling to be in love, and when it hits you, it can catch you off guard. This song gets that message across.
My Future – Billie Eilish
One thing most of us forget on Valentine’s day is how important it is to love ourselves. Eilish reminds us to do just that with her track “My Future.” This song is all about loving who you are and taking the time to embrace the person you have become and can become.
No Judgement – Niall Horan
Everyone wants to find someone we can be comfortable around. A lot of people say they don’t believe in placing labels on their relationships. If you’re one of those people, Horan’s track “No Judgment” is the one for you. In the song he croons about not having to prove your relationship to anyone. What we love most about the song though is that he literally says when you’re with him you can be your true self without any judgement.
One In A Million – Aaliyah
Aaliyah is one of our absolute favorite artists. Her track “One in A Million” is all about being in love with someone, and that’s the only person who matters in your life. The song is about giving your heart to the one you love and making it clear that you don’t intend to give it to anyone else.
Look After You – The Fray
The Fray is one of our favorite bands. Their songs make us feel incredibly emotional. “Look After You” is no different. It’s a beautiful melodic track about having someone you love in your corner who will look after you when you’re in need.
Special – Lizzo
We have already told you how important self-love is. Lizzo’s “Special” is another song that reminds us we need to love ourselves no matter the circumstances. The world does enough to try and break us down. We have to be our biggest support system because if we don’t love ourselves first, how can we love anyone else?
Late Night Talking – Harry Styles
This is just an upbeat track that is all about well, “Late Night Talking.” Styles sings about being so in love with a person you just want to stay up all night and talk with them about everything and nothing at all.
Boo’d Up – Ella Mai
This Ella Mai track will never go out of style. “Boo’d Up” is an R&B classic about the overwhelming feelings of being in love. We love this song because of the play on words. “Boo’d Up” could mean that you’re dating someone but in this track it’s literally about the way your heart beats when you’re with the person you love.
Adore You – Miley Cyrus
This sultry track from Cyrus off her Bangerz album is almost ten years old, and we still love it. “Adore You” is an emotional song about love and how much the special someone in your life means to you.
Bloodsport ’15 – Raleigh Ritchie
Relationships are hard. There is a lot of good in being in love. There’s also pain too. Couples fight sometimes and that’s what “Bloodsport ’15” is all about. Those fights but also knowing that you still have your partners back and will always love them even in the most difficult times.
So Good – Halsey
We love this song from Halsey because it reminds us that even if a relationship’s timing doesn’t initially seem right, there is still a chance that the opportunity will present itself again.
DFMU – Ella Mai
Yes, we put Ella Mai on here twice. What can we say? She speaks to our souls with her songs. “DFMU” deals with something we know all too well. The fear of giving your heart away to someone because you think they might break it.
Mirrors – Justin Timberlake
An oldie but still a goodie. This track from JT is one of our favorites and is all about what it means to find your soulmate. It’s literally like looking in a mirror and seeing yourself reflected.
The Only Exception – Paramore
Paramore’s “The Only Exception” is a song for those who have felt a little jaded by love. Lead singer Hayley Williams sings about promising never to fall in love. However, once she does find the love, she’s singing an entirely different tune. “The Only Exception” reminds us even if we are not looking for love; it will often find us.
Die For You – The Weeknd
I don’t think we really have to explain this track. If so, it’s pretty much about the conflicting feelings of loving someone when your relationship is going through a rough patch.
Young and Beautiful – Lana Del Rey
This one is all about finding a love that will last the test of time. Del Rey asks if she’ll be loved well into old age. It brings to mind the vows of till death do us part.
Present – Khalid
Khalid’s song is literally about the feeling of being present in a relationship and just taking time to be together and experience your partner without anyone else around.
Close – Nick Jonas ft. Tove Lo
One of our favorite Nick Jonas songs is “Close.” Besides the collab between him and Tove Lo, the lyrics are so pretty and authentic. Jonas sings about being afraid to open up to someone and get close because nobody wants their heart broken. Ultimately, the song is about letting down those emotional walls to allow yourself to be loved.
