Daisy Jones & The Six has gone international.
Greece looks like a beautiful place. It seems like a peaceful place. It seems like a place that I want to go. So yes, I can find peace and understanding why Daisy decided to escape there. I can understand also why she went there after Billy sacrificed her to save his own ego.
This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I understand why Billy did it. I am not saying that he’s right for doing it (he’s not) but I can understand why he did it. I can understand what he wanted to protect Julia from. I can understand that he didn’t want his deepest secrets out there.
So yes, Greece. Greece is a beautiful place.
But this episode, we opened up with Simone in New York and finding her way. Bernie has put her voice on a track that everyone at the club loves. Simone is a little taken a back, but also she’s excited. She loves music. She deserves to be seen. She deserves to be heard.
And in New York she’s finally making it. Everyone loves her. But I have to wonder, does Simone want what she has or is she afraid of success? Because she seems on the edge. Yet, I think that is in part because she’s figuring out who she is and that’s never easy.
One thing you can count on in this life, is Daisy showing up at the moments that she shouldn’t be there. She sends a telegram to Simone and it simple says, “I Need You!”
Look, if one of my besties is sending me a message and telling me that she needs me, I am there. No questions asked and Simone is the same way. She instantly drops everything and heads to be with Daisy. But what makes me like her girlfriend even more is that she drops everything to go with her.
When someone says I Need You, and that’s it, I would automatically assume that it’s an emergency. That either they are in jail, hospital, or on the verge of a breakdown – I would just think the worst. But that’s the thing – with Daisy it wasn’t that.
Or was it?
She reached out because she was engaged. She was getting married and wasn’t about to get married without Simone there. She’d met someone and was in love. She’d found her solice and peace. She knew what she wanted from life and believed she’d found happiness in Nicky.
Am I going to tell you that Daisy didn’t love Nicky? No. I won’t. But I will tell you that I believe she was spiraling because she had read the Rolling Stone article and what Billy had offered the Rolling Stone writer, so that his story wasn’t written, was Daisy’s.
Daisy had and does love Billy, so for him to sacrifice her heart, her story, was devastating to her. No one can blame or judge her for that. I would have kicked Billy’s ass. But Daisy isn’t me, she isn’t any of us. Instead of violence, she chose her ability to run.
While Nicky was willing to let Daisy run, because he had no idea who she truly was – Simone wasn’t. She wasn’t willing to not be upfront with Daisy and tell her what was up. And hey, that’s a good best friend. It’s also going to cause some friction, because when you tell someone things, if they don’t want to hear it, they will react.
When Simone tries to talk to Nicky, he doesn’t react well either. He ends up telling Daisy that the issue with Simone is that she’s in love with Daisy.
Not going to lie, my mouth dropped to the floor over that. I was SHOCKED. I didn’t and don’t know what to think. Like the gull of some people. But also, what the fuck when Daisy believes what he says and has the nerve to ask her in retaliation to Simone telling her the truth. I would have slapped Daisy and been done with her.
But that’s not who Simone is. Yes, she was pissed and had every reason to be. She had every reason to go off, but she didn’t. She left, like she had planned and went about her day. And Daisy? Daisy did get some redemption points in my eyes, because she went down to the docks and apologizes to Simone.
Simone offers her some truth again, and some reality. While I get that Daisy is hurt over the article and everything with Billy, I do believe that Simone was in the right here. She tells her best friend that she loves her, but she’s out of line. She tells her best friend that she’s taking the fame that she has for granted, and she’s letting a lot of people down.
But the biggest truth that she told Daisy, “You’re a real selfish bitch.”
When Daisy returns to the house, Nicky has found the Rolling Stone article and he tells her that they should go back. Daisy doesn’t want to get hurt again, but he tells her that he won’t let anyone hurt her. That’s a tall order Nicky. That’s a big promise.
But Daisy does return to LA, and to the studio, acting as nothing is wrong. Of course her and Billy have it out, but I am thankful as fuck that she tells him off for what he did. He was completely out of line for Rolling Stone, but so was she.
This episode was truly Simone’s episode. It was her strength. Her tenacity. Her grace. Her talent. She deserves a life that is filled with joy, happiness and love. I hope that future episodes allow us to see her more in New York and growing more.
Simone is a powerhouse and I can’t wait to see the effect she has on Daisy. Because I believe that she will be one of the best characters to come out of this show.
So the question that I am left with is, will the Six be able to find their way? One wonders.
