Blindspotting Season 2 became our new obsession! We sat down with the show’s star Jasmine Cephas Jones to talk about how Ashley is expanding her horizons and everything that lies ahead between Ashley and her family this season. Ready?
Here we go!
Challenges Jasmine Cephas Jones Is Grateful For

Jasmine Cephas Jones faces a huge challenge every time she steps into Ashley’s shoes in Blindspotting. It’s a challenge that allows her to show her strength but also her vulnerability, which is a reflection of Ashley’s. So it’s inevitable that Jasmine doesn’t take a bit of Ashley with her when the camera goes off. However, our conversation with Jasmine revealed that she takes less of Ashley to her home than it might seem.
Ashley is an intense character who has life-shaking things happen to her in a tragicomedy way, just as they do in real life. That’s why Blindspotting connects so much with the public because it’s not afraid to show the rawness of life.
With this in mind, Jasmine Cephas Jones confesses that while she likes to take her time in the more emotional scenes, she tries to leave Ashley at work for the sake of her mental health. Likewise, she shares with us how her experience in theater makes her approach this role in a unique way.
However, Jasmine Cephas Jones tells us the lessons Ashley and Blindspotting taught her about herself and the legacy she hopes she leaves behind. Jasmine opened up about the way Ashley pushes her as an artist, to learn more, and to try harder to do her story justice.
Ashley helps Jasmine expand her horizons and explore her true potential. She confesses that, on some occasions, she thought that she could not achieve it, but the Blindspotting team was always there for her.
As for her legacy, Jasmine Cephas Jones just hopes that her work is truly inspiring and means something. Focusing on Blindspotting, Jasmine recognizes that it’s important for the characters to transcend the screen and for the audience to see them as real people and connect with them.
Complicated Family Relationships in Blindspotting Season 2

Taking us deep into the dynamics of her character, Jasmine Cephas Jones discussed the complicated relationship between Ashley and Trish (Jaylen Barron). Blindspotting made it clear to us that they crash a lot no matter what happens. From Jasmine’s point of view, this is just a sample of the very different paths they both followed. Ashley and Trish grew up together, but Ashley left, and when she came back, they were both different.
Ashley loves her family and tries to raise Sean while Trish is trying to find herself, and as Jasmine Cephas Jones comments, that generates conflicts but, despite everything, they love each other because they are family. They just have to learn to communicate better, which is nothing that doesn’t happen in every family.
To the delight of the fans, Jasmine Cephas Jones promised that Blindspotting Season 2 will show more of that family love that we haven’t seen so far. Although Jasmine also warned us that the show will take a turn soon… and we are already biting our nails!
One of the highlights of Blindspotting is the way Ashley breaks the fourth wall. Jasmine Cephas Jones shares with us what those moments feel like for her and how she deals with them as an actress. She was nervous that the rap moments would feel robotic because Ashley is sharing so much with the audience in those scenes but visualizing it as a Shakespearian monologue helped her. To know more, you will have to watch the video! Wink, wink.
Lastly, Jasmine Cephas Jones opened up about what it is like to work so closely with Atticus Woodward (Sean) and how proud the entire Blindspotting team is of him because they can see the way he is growing and maturing and how that reflects in his performance. Likewise, she shared with us that she likes that, when the cameras are turned off, not everything is so serious and they have their moments of fun.
The best thing about this is that, as Jasmine Cephas Jones commented, we will see a lot more Atticus Woodward this season and, frankly, we can’t wait!
