In a way, it felt inevitable, because we’ve gotten used to pain. Getting another season of Magnum P.I was a gift, and one will never say not those kinds of gifts, but hoping for more always seemed like …a long shot, especially when NBC first called the renewal a two-season order, then one 20-episode season, and then proceeded to split the season in two. They wanted it to last, so that meant, they didn’t want more?
But internal catastrophizing doesn’t make the reality any easier. Even if, at least, we still have Season 5B ahead of us. There is that silver lining. Though at this point, with all the uncertainty, we don’t even know when those will air. They were originally set for midseason, but it is unlikely any of the Fall shows will actually be ready for Fall, so we might just get them earlier. Which is good, and then bad, because then it will all be over.
The Magnum P.I writer’s room tweeted this after the news of the show ending after Season 5 came out:
How we wish it weren’t so. We’ll miss them. We really will.
