I didn’t think that Heartstopper could get cuter than season 1. But Netflix dropped the teaser trailer for season 2 and I have been unequivocally been proven wrong. Because season 2 looks softer and exactly what I wish I had growing up.
In the teaser trailer, we get to see Charlie and Nick on a trip to Paris. Like any rom-com, this is an opportunity for them to test their relationship out in a new setting. And it looks like they’re not hiding who they are or the fact that they care deeply for each other. They’re a couple and that’s it. And throughout the trailer, you get really really soft moments where their hands touch and there’s a spark or they’re just shyly looking at each other while sitting next to each other. Even a kiss in bed. All sweet moments that will definitely be matched up by teenage angst. But that’s okay because it will be balanced out by all of these tender moments.
And what makes this teaser trailer even better is that Charlie and Nick aren’t the only ones that are getting moments that are tender. Elle and Tao also have some moments in the teaser trailer for Heartstopper season 2. You see Elle and Tao hanging out and spinning each other. You see them spending moments where everything stops and they just see who the other person really is. And it’s kind of revolutionary in a way for a show to have more than one core LGBTQ+ ship that is getting what seemingly looks like the same love and care that Charlie and Nick got in season 1.
The same thing can be said for Tara and Darcy. In season 1 they were honest to the world about who they were and hit some speed bumps along the way. They found a sense of belonging with the main gang of Heartstopper. And you could see them blossoming in a way where they felt comfortable to be who they want to be. And in the teaser trailer for Heartstopper season 2, you see those soft moments continue. They care deeply for each other and the bond that they have is something that is not going to disappear just because Charlie and Nick are having their romance or Elle and Tao are having their romance.
All of these kids matter, whether they’re in romantic relationships or just as characters. Because they feel like who we were when we were growing up or who we wish we would have seen on our screens. They’re literally going to be saving lives in season 2 of Heartstopper. And I don’t care who says I’m being over dramatic. It matters when you see yourself in the content you consume and I will say that until my dying breath. Seeing yourself validates your experiences and the love you hold in your heart. And Heartstopper season 2 is absolutely going to validate who we are.
