When it comes to movies that we want a sequel to, The Princess Diaries would be at the top (okay, well top 5) of movies that we want a sequel to. It’s a movie that defined a huge part of our youth and it made us believe in the possibility of becoming a princess.
But alas our parents were definitely not royalty. So we live in the dreams that movies gives us.
The franchise means a lot to us and one of the favorite characters from the show was Sandra Oh’s. She played the Vice Principal at Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi, Princess of Genovia’s school. Vice Principal Gupta was a character that was hilarious, but also one that most of us could relate to, because hey, who doesn’t love royalty.
When Sandra was asked about returning for a sequel, she was ready!
“I am ready for the Queen. Call me! I’m dying to see how Gupta has moved up in the world,” she said when talking to Entertainment Weekly.
While Oh may not get why it is that Vice Principal Gupta is so iconic, we do. It’s because she is so relatable and in awe of royalty. While some of us may not want to admit that we love royal families, we all know that secretly we have a lot of love for royalty.
We’re fascinated by it.
Oh talked about a previous encounter that she had in 2015 with a fan and her initial thoughts.
“I feel it’s like your generation that hit when you were all very young,” she said in regards to her iconic lines. “I remember it was like 2015, I was walking down the street in Chicago, and there [was] a young person, who at that point in 2015, was not my usual demographic, which was like a college-aged, straight white guy. He passed me and then he ran back up to me and did the line: ‘Uh huh. Uh huh. Uh huh. The Queen is coming.’”
She continued, “I was like, ‘Who is this 20-year-old frat boy?’ He was coming up to me doing that line.”
We hope that the sequel to The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement happens and that we get more of Vice Principal Gupta.
