We don’t even go to Love Island, but we admit, this clip made us want to. It made us want to because we love Sarah Hyland and want to protect her. It made us want to because we want to yell and this dick who disrespected her for doing HER JOB!
Now this clip has gone viral and yes, sometimes that makes us stop and look at a clip we normally wouldn’t. Yes, this is one of those times that we stopped, rewatched and went WTF!
So, as you all may know Sarah Hyland is the host of Love Island USA. When Sarah appears, you know that someone is getting dumped (most likely). And so when she showed up on the Red Wedding episode, fans of the show know that someone is getting dumped.
So one of the contestants, Keenan Anunay, was the dude with the least amount of votes, effectively leaving the villa. To the shock of everyone (even us, because like we wouldn’t… we think) Vickala Gray, who was a couple (we think, at least that’s how it was explained to us) volunteered as tribute.
She said, “I would like to voluntarily also leave. I feel like I found what I came here for and I’d like to leave with Keenan.”
Girl… say what? So many thoughts. Like our mama’s told us to never, ever build your life around anyone else and give up your dreams for anyone. Do we think that her dream was to be on reality TV? No. Maybe her dream was love, so maybe that’s the answer we’re not seeing. Who the fuck knows.
We can’t blame Hyland for doing her job and then asking, “Before you go anywhere, I just… I want to make sure that you’re absolutely happy with your decision.”
Like it’s a totally reasonable question. One we are all wondering when watching (even the contestants, we believe, as all seemed shocked AF) the show. Apparently except contestant Mike Starks.
So, Gray answers Hyland, “No regrets.”
Starks, however, ready for his 15 seconds of infamy (we’re not even giving him minutes of fame, cause like no, you rude). He didn’t excuse himself from the conversation, but inserted himself into the conversation and said, “Why are you saying it like that?”
We were all shocked AF and also completely second hand embarrassed by him when he opens his mouth and asks that. We were shocked! Sarah was too when she asked, “Me?”
Starks, who didn’t get that he was being mad disrespectful, replied, “Yeah, it sounded mad disrespectful.”
Everyone else got that he was being a dick. Hyland’s face was completely put off by his comment. She asked him (and he didn’t get that – well in our opinion – she was telling him that he was disrespectful too), “I’m being disrespectful?”
He responds, “Yeah.”
Well the dude standing next to him apologized to Sarah for what Starks said. Stark though, didn’t seem remorseful at all. Quite the opposite. He looked like he gave no fucks and that we should just all thank the Gods he wasn’t saying more. Well, that’s bullshit, because he was a dick and should have been the one apologizing to Sarah.
“Boys will be boys,” Sarah ends the segment saying. We couldn’t agree more. Hopefully people realize that’s what Starks is – a boy. If he’s on Love Island USA he needs to learn to be a man.
